Morton's, The Steakhouse

Morton's Nashville on Church St serves USDA prime-aged beef, fresh seafood, and a Wine Spectator-awarded list of 300+ wines in an elegant fine dining setting.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Morton's The Steakhouse has a founding story that begins not with a cut of beef but with a hamburger. Co-founders Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch first crossed paths at the Playboy Club in Montreal, where Klaus cooked a burger that stopped Arnie in his tracks. He burst into the kitchen demanding to know who made it, and when Klaus stepped forward, Arnie declared it the best he had ever tasted — the "Million-Dollar Hamburger." That moment of mutual respect launched a partnership that opened its first restaurant on State Street in Chicago in 1978, and has since grown to more than 65 locations worldwide, including the Nashville address on Church Street.

What Arrives on the Plate

The foundation of the steakhouse experience here is USDA prime-aged beef — the top two percent of beef available in the United States. Morton's has worked with the same suppliers since day one, with those suppliers selecting the best of their inventory specifically for the brand; anything that doesn't meet the standard doesn't get cut. Alongside the steaks, the kitchen offers fresh seafood that rounds out the menu with options like Chilean sea bass, oysters on the half shell, colossal shrimp, and red king crab legs. Current seasonal additions include a Prime Bavette Steak Frites, Wagyu Beef Stroganoff, and Oysters Rockefeller, alongside a Lobster & Crab Cocktail — all available for a limited time.

The Bar and the Wine Program

The Bar 12-21 program runs alongside the dining room, offering hand-crafted cocktails, imported and local craft brews, and chef-selected menu options. The wine program is where Morton's Nashville has earned particular recognition: the location holds a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, backed by a list of more than 300 wines spanning exclusive vintages, cult favorites, and sommelier selections. Private wine lockers are available on-site, and the team includes general managers and sommeliers ready to guide pairings. Morton's has also introduced its own private label, "State & Rush," a collection honoring the brand's Chicago roots with a Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir sourced from Oak Ridge Winery in Lodi, California.

The Setting and Occasions

The dining room is designed to work equally well for a business dinner, a special occasion, or a relaxed evening at the bar. Private dining rooms accommodate events of varying sizes, and the kitchen extends its reach through catering and prime platters. The ethos running through the Nashville location — as through the broader Morton's organization — is described simply as quality, consistency, and genuine hospitality, values that have kept staff and managers with the company for decades.
