The story
Morton's The Steakhouse traces its origins to an unlikely moment: co-founders Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch, both working at the Playboy Club in Montreal, connected over what Arnie declared the best hamburger he had ever tasted. That chance encounter — and the "Million-Dollar Hamburger" it produced — set the course for a steakhouse that opened its first doors on State Street in Chicago in 1978. More than four decades later, Morton's has grown to over 65 locations worldwide, with the Naperville address on Freedom Drive carrying forward the same founding principles: quality, consistency, and genuine hospitality.
At the heart of the Morton's experience is USDA prime-aged beef — the top 2% of beef available in the United States. The same suppliers have been used since day one, selecting the finest cuts from their inventory; anything that doesn't meet Morton's standards simply doesn't reach the plate. The current menu extends well beyond the classics, with seasonal additions like a Prime Bavette Steak Frites, Wagyu Beef Stroganoff, Oysters Rockefeller, and a Lobster & Crab Cocktail rounding out a menu that balances the timeless with the contemporary.
Seafood holds its own alongside the steaks: Chilean Sea Bass, Oysters on the Half Shell, Colossal Shrimp, and Red King Crab Legs are all part of the offering, with the option to pair land and sea for a more expansive dining experience.
The Naperville location maintains a list of more than 300 wines, a program recognized with the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence — a distinction that reflects the depth and care behind the selection. Exclusive vintages, private wine lockers, sommelier-curated picks, and seasonal Bottle Shock features give wine enthusiasts plenty to explore. Morton's has also introduced a private label, "State & Rush," honoring its Chicago roots with a Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir sourced from one of California's oldest continuously operating wineries.
The Bar 12-21 program brings hand-crafted cocktails, imported and local craft brews, and chef-selected bites to the bar scene, keeping the atmosphere lively without sacrificing the elegance of the dining rooms. For private occasions, intimate dining rooms accommodate business functions, celebrations, and special events — with catering and private dining menus available for groups of any size.
Morton's describes its ambiance as "a true blend of classic and contemporary," and the Naperville steakhouse delivers on that promise. Each guest is treated as a VIP, a standard reinforced by a staff whose longevity — some members having been with the company for decades — speaks to a culture that values people as much as the food on the plate.
