The story
The story behind Perry's Steakhouse & Grille begins in 1979, when Bob Perry opened a modest meat market in Houston called Perry's Butcher Shop and Deli. By 1986, his son Chris had persuaded him to add dining tables — a move that proved popular enough to inspire something larger. In 1993, Chris Perry opened Perry's Steakhouse & Grille, combining the family's deep knowledge of quality cuts with a more polished dining experience. The Coral Gables location brings that same lineage to Miami, remaining true, as the family puts it, to its "neighborhood butcher shop roots with top quality selection and service."
Perry's operates under a guiding principle they call Rare and Well Done® — the idea that every detail, from the first course to the last, should be executed with care. Butchers hand-select the beef before chefs apply a signature blend of spices. The Prime USDA-aged steaks are chosen for exceptional marbling and sliced with the kind of ease that signals proper aging. Additions like Oscar Style with Blue Lump Crab and Béarnaise, Peppercorn Reduction, or Truffle Merlot demi-glace allow guests to shape each plate to their own taste.
The steakhouse also carries a surprise that has become its most talked-about item: Perry's Famous Pork Chop. Seven fingers high, the chop is rubbed with a secret seasoning blend, cured, then roasted on a pecan wood rotisserie for up to six hours before being finished with Perry's signature herb-garlic butter. It arrives at the table carved tableside — an interactive moment that has made it a signature of the Perry's experience for more than four decades.
The Coral Gables location earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2020, recognition that reflects the care taken with the cellar alongside the kitchen. Bar 79® — named for the year the Perry family first opened their butcher shop — offers cocktails made with fresh kitchen ingredients alongside a curated selection of wines, available during Social Hour and beyond.
Perry's is well set up for gatherings of any scale. Private dining rooms accommodate groups and special events, with flexible menus and the same level of service that defines the main dining room. The team goes out of its way for celebrations: rose petals for anniversaries, complimentary desserts for birthdays, and a dedicated anniversary menu available upon request. Outdoor seating, valet parking, and full accessibility round out the practical side of a visit to this Coral Gables steakhouse.
