The story
Opened in February 2022, Osteria sits on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami's MiMo Historic District with a clear sense of purpose. The word osteria itself sets the tone: a humble neighborhood gathering place where the food is honest, the wine flows freely, and every stranger becomes a friend. That tradition, transplanted from Italy to Miami, earned the restaurant recognition from Gambero Rosso — one of Italy's most authoritative food guides — a meaningful endorsement for any Italian kitchen operating outside its home country.
Executive Chef Nicola Bortoluzzi grew up in Susegana, in the Veneto region of northern Italy, shaped by family meals and his grandmother's kitchen. After graduating from one of Italy's top hospitality schools, his career took him across Europe and the United States, where he trained alongside Joël Robuchon, Pierre Gagnaire, and Jason Atherton. He has been with Osteria from day one, channeling that breadth of experience into a menu that balances northern Italian tradition with seasonal curiosity. As he puts it: "Cooking is how I carry my grandmother with me — every dish is a conversation between where I come from and where I am."
The menu reads like a love letter to Italy's culinary heritage. From the primi, Linguine ai Frutti di Mare arrives with calamari, mussels, and shrimp in a San Marzano tomato sauce — straightforward, coastal, and deeply satisfying. Among the secondi, the Branzino al Sale — whole Mediterranean sea bass baked in a salt crust — is carved tableside and served with sautéed spinach and grilled lemon. A wood-fired prime rib-eye finished with sea salt flakes and herb butter rounds out the mains for those who want something bolder. The Tiramisù, made with espresso-soaked ladyfingers and silky mascarpone, closes the meal the way it should be closed. Daily specials follow the seasons and the chef's inspiration, keeping the menu alive.
The setting is warm candlelight and an unpretentious elegance — the kind of room where a table of two feels as comfortable as a large group. Osteria also offers three distinct private event spaces, from an intimate Chef's Table Room to a covered outdoor terrace, each with dedicated menus and wine pairings. An extensive selection of Italian and international wines — bold Tuscans, crisp whites — is thoughtfully matched to the food. With over 799 verified reviews on OpenTable, the hospitality clearly lands.
