The story
'O Munaciello began in Florence in 2005, when the team brought something Florentines had never quite seen before: true Neapolitan pizza — high-rimmed, made with dough leavened for 48 hours, baked exclusively in a wood-fired oven. The concept caught on, and what started as a novelty became a fixture loved by locals and tourists alike. In January 2017, the restaurant crossed the Atlantic and landed on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami's MiMo District, carrying the same philosophy intact.
The MiMo District has a low-key energy that suits 'O Munaciello well. Sitting at 6425 Biscayne Boulevard, the pizzeria brings a distinctly Italian sensibility to one of Miami's most understated neighborhoods. Ingredients are personally sourced from trusted Italian suppliers — San Marzano DOP tomatoes, Fior di Latte, buffalo mozzarella, anchovies from Cetara, Piennolo cherry tomatoes — and the pizza makers and chefs are Italian.
The menu covers a wide range of Neapolitan classics and gourmet creations. Among the Pizze Classiche, the Marinara ($13) and Margherita ($16) anchor the lineup with simplicity, while the Salsiccia & Friarielli and Patate & Provola push into richer territory. The Gourmet section goes further: the Carmine — sausage, broccoli rabe, stracciatella, fried eggplant, shaved parmesan — is named after the Pizza World Champion 2022 title won in Las Vegas, where 'O Munaciello took Best STG Pizza Napoletana and Carmine claimed Best of the Best. The Troisi tops smoked buffalo cheese and porcini with shredded fresh black truffle; the Vesuvio pairs burrata and Piennolo tomatoes with the same. Every pizza can be made with black dough or gluten-free dough, an option the restaurant takes seriously for guests with celiac disease.
For larger gatherings, Pizza al Metro — pizza by the meter — is available for events and parties.
The accolades are consistent and substantial. Gambero Rosso has awarded 'O Munaciello its top pizza recognition — Tre Spicchi — five years in a row, and the restaurant appears on 50 Top Pizza as 5th in the United States, 1st in Florida, and 28th in the world. That kind of sustained recognition, across both Italian and international guides, reflects something more than a good product — it reflects a commitment to doing Neapolitan pizza the way it was meant to be done, even 5,000 miles from Naples.
