The story
Seoul-born restaurateur Simon Kim opened COTE in New York's Flatiron district in June 2017 with a straightforward but ambitious idea: marry the conviviality of Korean barbecue with the hallmarks of a classic American steakhouse. The concept earned the distinction of being the world's only Michelin-starred Korean tabletop grill restaurant. In February 2021, Kim brought that same vision to Miami's Design District, unveiling COTE Miami at 3900 NE Second Avenue.
The 5,892-square-foot space carries the high energy of its New York flagship into a South Florida setting, with smokeless grills on every table and an in-house dry-aging room ensuring every cut arrives hot, fresh, and caramelized to perfection. Recognized in the Michelin Guide 2025, the Miami location has firmly established itself as one of the city's most serious dining destinations.
COTE's own mantra keeps things direct: grilled steak, fire, and cocktail. Every cut served is USDA Prime — the top five percent of American cattle — or above, with American Wagyu (a crossbreed of Japanese Wagyu and Black Angus) rounding out the selection. The signature Butcher's Feast arrives at $82 per person and includes four selected cuts alongside Korean accompaniments: a USDA Prime beef bone consommé (Gogi Cha), ban-chan, scallion salad, a savory egg soufflé, two stews, and vanilla soft serve with soy sauce caramel. For those wanting to go further, the Steak Omakase — dubbed "The Grand Tour" — offers a chef-guided progression through the menu at $225 per person, with an optional wine pairing.
Appetizers bridge the two culinary traditions with confidence: "STEAK & EGGS™" pairs hand-cut filet mignon tartare with Imperial Daurenki caviar and milk toast, while the COTE "Ceviche" Moolhwe brings fluke, tuna, cuttlefish, and sweet shrimp in a chilled radish vinaigrette consommé. Korean accompaniments like Dol-sot Bibimbap and Kimchi Wagyu "Paella" round out the table.
The beverage program matches the ambition of the kitchen. Wine Spectator recognized the list with its Best of Award of Excellence in 2022 — a fitting nod to a cellar spanning more than 1,200 labels, curated by an award-winning sommelier team. The bar offers classic-but-creative cocktails alongside a Magic Hour menu available from 5 to 7 PM daily.
Beyond the main dining room, COTE Miami offers the Pineapple King Room, a dim-lit private space for parties of 8 to 10, equipped with Apple TV capabilities and custom food and beverage pairings. For larger occasions, the restaurant accommodates half or full buyouts for up to 60 and 120 guests respectively. The Miami team is led by General Manager Yusuf Hanlioglu, with Bar Manager Nicholas Newton-John overseeing the cocktail and wine service.
