The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Fine Dining with a Southern Soul

Inside The Peabody Memphis, one of the American South's most storied hotels, Chez Philippe holds a well-earned Four-Star rating from Forbes Travel Guide — recognition that speaks to every detail of the experience, from the first greeting to the final bite.

The restaurant sits just blocks from Beale Street, the National Civil Rights Museum, Sun Studio, and the Orpheum Theatre, making it a natural anchor for a night out in downtown Memphis. But Chez Philippe is far more than a convenient address. It carries the warmth and ease that the city itself is known for, without sacrificing an ounce of refinement.

A Room Worth Arriving Early For

The dining room is tiered, and the three corner tables on the uppermost level are the ones to request. From there, the full sweep of the room opens before you — an ideal vantage point that feels both intimate and connected to the quiet theatre of a well-run dining room. The staff move with the kind of calibrated attentiveness that Forbes describes as Goldilocks precision: present when needed, invisible when not.

The Desserts Alone Justify the Evening

Executive pastry chef Konrad Spitzbart brings a confident hand to the final course. His chocolate coffee gateaux — layered with peanut butter caramel and banana rum ice cream — is a deliberate nod to Elvis, grounded in Memphis identity without being a gimmick. The crème brûlée trio, offered in vanilla, chocolate, and pistachio and accompanied by French macarons, is the kind of dessert that makes skipping it feel genuinely regrettable.

Chez Philippe proves that fine dining and genuine hospitality are not in tension — here, they are the same thing.

Chez Philippe’s downtown location is just blocks fromMemphisattractions such as Beale Street, the Memphis Rock N’ Soul Museum, Gibson Guitar Factory, National Civil Rights Museum and Sun Studio — an ideal spot for a bite before seeing a show at the Orpheum Theatre or enjoying a night on the town.Although the idea of fine dining tends to evoke stuffy attitudes and prim and proper behavior, Chez Philippe takes advantage of its location in The Peabody Memphis and boasts Southern hospitality and charm. The waitstaff create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. We think the best tables at Chez Philippe are the three corner tables on the third tier of the Four-Star restaurant. They overlook the whole room, so you will have your back to the wall and not to people. You won’t want to skip dessert here— executive pastry chef Konrad Spitzbart creates sumptuous dishes such as the chocolate coffee gateaux with peanut butter caramel and banana rum ice cream — a nod to Elvis —and the crème brûlée trio of vanilla, chocolate and pistachio with French macarons.Service at Chez Philippe is beyond reproach; the staff of the Four-Star restaurant is very knowledgeable about the menu and attend to each table like Goldilocks — not too frequently, not too infrequently, but just right.
