The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Grain Mill Turned Gathering Place

Locals call it Tuskies, and the nickname says something about how deeply this restaurant has rooted itself in Leesburg, Virginia. The building began its life in 1899 as a working grain mill, and nearly ninety years later it was carefully restored and reopened as Tuscarora Mill — its original bones, timber and all, now framing one of Northern Virginia's most enduring dining destinations.

Situated at Market Station on Harrison Street in historic downtown Leesburg, the restaurant serves American cuisine across a full day of service: an all-day menu running through the week, weekend brunch on both Saturday and Sunday, and a late-evening menu for those who linger. The breadth of offerings — from a children's menu to a dedicated spirits list and dessert menu — reflects a place built to welcome everyone, not just a particular kind of diner.

Chef Julian and the Wine Cellar

Upcoming events offer a window into the kitchen's ambitions. Chef Julian is set to partner with Early Mountain Vineyards for a five-course wine dinner, pairing Virginia wines with what the restaurant describes as "mouthwatering food" — a collaboration that speaks to the serious attention Tuskies gives to both plate and glass. That attention to wine has not gone unnoticed: Wine Spectator awarded Tuscarora Mill its Award of Excellence, recognizing the depth and quality of the wine list. The recognition is well-earned for an American restaurant that maintains a dedicated wine cellar space and a separate spirits list alongside its main offerings.

Spaces That Fit the Occasion

Private events here are not an afterthought. The Wine Cellar, located on the lower level, seats up to fifty guests for a plated dinner in what the restaurant calls a "warm setting" with a built-in bar. The Log Cabin — cozy, fireplace-equipped, with a covered outdoor porch strung with bistro lighting — handles up to thirty guests. The Garden Room, bright and open, accommodates up to sixty for a plated meal on weekday evenings. For larger celebrations, the affiliated Birkby House venue in historic downtown Leesburg can host up to 180 people.

Northern Virginia Magazine placed Tuscarora Mill among the top fifty restaurants in the region in 2023, and Loudoun Times named it one of the top twenty restaurants in Loudoun County in 2020. For a restaurant serving straightforward American cuisine out of a 125-year-old grain mill, that kind of sustained recognition is the real story.
