The story
Al Solito Posto — "the usual place" in Italian — sets out to be exactly that: a modern neighborhood restaurant where familiar dishes feel freshly discovered. Situated in Las Vegas' Tivoli Village, it was envisioned by Chef/Owner James Trees as the ultimate neighborhood Italian restaurant, pairing classic dishes and drinks with an atmosphere that is, as Thrillist put it, "striking the perfect balance between sophistication and warmth."
Desert Companion called it "the crown jewel Tivoli Village long deserved," and the restaurant has drawn a city-wide following since opening in 2021 — earning spots on lists from Robb Report, USA Today, Eater, and TIME magazine's World's Greatest Places that same year.
James Trees is a Las Vegas native who trained at the Culinary Institute of America before working under Heston Blumenthal, Eric Ripert, Michael Mina, and others. He spent time as Corporate Sous Chef for the Mina Group and appeared behind the scenes on Kitchen Nightmares and Hell's Kitchen. His first independent restaurant, Esther's Kitchen, became a downtown institution; Al Solito Posto followed as his take on refined East Coast Italian.
In the kitchen alongside Trees, Executive Chef Adam Rios brings experience from Fleur de Lys, ALEX at Wynn, and Sage. General Manager Chris Mattson came up through Kai — Arizona's only five-diamond restaurant — and Eleven Madison Park, when it held the number one spot on the World's 50 Best list. Chef de Cuisine Evan Packer arrived from Cut by Wolfgang Puck. The depth of the team is evident in every detail of the operation.
The menu takes well-known Italian-American dishes and applies current technique and quality ingredients without abandoning what made them beloved. Fresh-baked focaccia and house-made pastas like Rigatoni alla Vodka and Pappardelle Bolognese anchor the pasta section, while Nonna's Meatballs, Chicken Parmesan, Sunday Gravy, Lasagna al Forno, and Lobster Fra Diavolo round out a menu that reads as both nostalgic and considered. Whole fish, Wagyu Beef Carpaccio, and Lamb Shank Osso Buco extend the range for those who want to venture further.
The bar program holds its own: a barrel-aged Boulevardier, a dedicated Negroni Bar, spritzes, and spirit-free selections make it one of the Westside's most talked-about bar menus, according to Vegas Magazine. Italian wines dominate a cellar that earned Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence — recognition that reflects the seriousness with which the list is curated.
Las Vegas Weekly wrote that Al Solito Posto "feels like a place that could be inside a luxury Las Vegas Strip resort" — high praise for a restaurant that deliberately positions itself as a neighborhood destination rather than a tourist draw. Locally, it has been named "Staff Pick: Best Neighborhood Italian" by Las Vegas Weekly and received Desert Companion's award for "Excellence in Service & Management." Gayot simply called it "Another Masterpiece by Chef James Trees."
