The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Glass Pavilion Above Still Water

At Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort, dining is inseparable from the landscape. Sensei By NOBU occupies a glass pavilion set upon a reflecting pond, where indoor and outdoor tables catch the shifting light of the Hawaiian day, and a 16-seat communal table invites guests to share the experience with one another. The setting is open from morning through evening, framing every meal in the quiet beauty of the island's natural surroundings.

The Kitchen's Point of View

The menu draws on the Asian culinary tradition that has defined Nobu's global reputation, with touches that speak to the specific place and produce of Lanai. Breakfast might begin with a Japanese Breakfast Set — tsukemono pickles, nimono (a seasonal braised dish), grilled fish, an egg preparation, and a choice of white or brown rice — a composed, unhurried way to start the day. Later, the Chirashi Don arrives as a careful arrangement of sashimi and sushi rice with vegetables from the Sensei farm, or gives way to island tacos for something more relaxed. Chilled udon noodles with dashi, grated daikon, spinach, and salmon roe offer a clean, precise midday option, while the Mushroom Toast — roasted mushrooms, feta, hummus, and a Japanese pesto of den miso, shiso, sesame, yuzu juice, and Greek extra-virgin olive oil — shows how the kitchen moves confidently between Asian and broader influences.

Beyond the à la carte offerings, the restaurant presents Omakase and Vegan Omakase menus alongside Afternoon Tea, reflecting the breadth of an Asian-inflected program that holds its own across every daypart.

Recognition and the Wine Program

Wine Spectator recognized Sensei By NOBU with its Award of Excellence in 2025, a distinction that reflects the care put into the beverage program alongside the food. For a resort restaurant, that kind of independent recognition matters — it signals that the list has been built with genuine intention rather than as an afterthought.

The restaurant is open exclusively to Four Seasons guests, which keeps the pace deliberate and the room unhurried. Morning through late evening, breakfast to dinner, the experience is designed to feel continuous with the wellness philosophy that runs through Sensei Lanai as a whole — attentive, grounded, and rooted in the particulars of this remote Hawaiian island.
