The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Where the Pacific Meets the Italian Table

Right beside the namesake beach tree at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, Beach Tree offers something genuinely rare on the Kona Coast: regional Italian cuisine grounded in the produce and seafood of Hawaiʻi Island. The setting is open-air and beachside, the atmosphere lively with nightly live entertainment, and the wine list recognized with a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence — a fitting complement to a kitchen that takes both its Italian roots and its local sourcing seriously.

The Food

The menu draws a clear line between handcraft and provenance. Handmade pastas anchor the Italian side of things — Doppio Ravioli filled with kabocha squash and ricotta, finished with brown butter, sage, pistachio gremolata, and Villa Manodori balsamico; Ricotta Cavatelli with black truffle, wild mushroom, and Parmigiano-Reggiano; and a Mafalde Bolognese built from a beef, veal, and pork ragù with pancetta and soffritto. These are dishes with weight and intention behind them.

Local ingredients carry equal billing. The Ahi Tuna Tartare arrives with Meyer lemon, chive, sea salt, black truffle aioli, and Sardinian flatbread — a plate that sits comfortably in both the Californian and Italian traditions the kitchen draws from. Charred Octopus with white bean, pork 'nduja, and salsa verde, and a Grilled Kurobuta Pork Chop with fennel pollen and tangerine mostarda round out a menu that moves confidently between the two cuisines. The resort notes that most menu items are sourced locally from Hawaiʻi Island farmers and fishermen.

La Tavola Italiana

On Wednesday evenings, the restaurant shifts into a communal mode with La Tavola Italiana — a family-style menu of Italian classics served in generous, shareable portions. It's a format that suits the spirit of the place well: warm, convivial, and unhurried.

The Bar and Atmosphere

The bar runs from late morning through the evening, pouring wines by the glass from a list that earned Wine Spectator's recognition, alongside locally brewed beer on tap and handcrafted cocktails. Live music plays nightly, keeping the energy grounded but festive — never stiff. Lunch and a limited afternoon menu are available without reservations; dinner requires one.
