The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A New Lake Oconee Tradition

Table at the Lake brings casual fine dining to the heart of Lake Oconee country, in Greensboro, Georgia. The restaurant's own description says it plainly: New American cuisine in a beautiful, relaxed atmosphere, with seasonal menus built on the highest-quality ingredients sourced locally and regionally whenever possible. The goal is food that reflects "the diverse food culture and heritage across America and the South" — grounded, honest cooking with a clear sense of place.

The People Behind It

Executive Chef and co-owner Casey Burchfield came to the kitchen late and by a winding road. After years working alongside prominent chefs within large corporate hospitality brands, the COVID-19 pandemic pushed him toward independence. He launched a home-delivery meal service, then a food truck called The Burch, which found more community support than he had dared to imagine. Lake Oconee, he says, gave him hope — and eventually two business partners he now calls friends.

One of those partners is Jon Altizer-Bieger, co-owner and managing partner, who oversees the front of house and beverage program. Raised in Southwestern Virginia, Jon grew up in kitchens where food was the family's love language, shared abundantly with neighbors who always seemed to arrive just as a meal hit the table. After time in Chicago, he returned to Georgia, crossed paths with Chef Casey, and found the right moment to open a small business in the Lake Oconee community.

The third co-owner, Geoff, relocated with Jon from Chicago and is part of the same tight-knit founding group.

The Experience

The American menu changes with the seasons, and the beverage program has earned recognition from Wine Spectator, whose 2024 Award of Excellence reflects the seriousness of the bottle list and wines-by-the-glass selection. Cocktails are crafted with the same care — think rye with spiced citrus and stone fruit, or tequila with green juice and jalapeño — alongside locally roasted French press coffee from Coffee Train in Greensboro.

Beyond dinner service Monday through Saturday, the restaurant hosts a Sunday brunch, an At-Home Supper Club, and private events. The room sits off Linger Longer Road on Cowles Clinic Way, a spot the team describes with quiet pride as their corner of lake country.

Integrity, fairness, and respect — toward guests, staff, and ingredients alike — are the stated values. The food follows from there.
