The story
Morton's The Steakhouse traces its origins to an unlikely moment: co-founders Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch, both working at the Playboy Club in Montreal, connected over a hamburger so exceptional that Arnie burst into the kitchen demanding to know who cooked it. That burger — dubbed the "Million-Dollar Hamburger" — sparked a partnership that led to the first Morton's opening on State Street in Chicago in 1978. More than four decades later, the brand has grown to over 65 locations worldwide, with the Jacksonville outpost on East Coastline Drive carrying forward the same founding principles: quality, consistency, and genuine hospitality.
At the heart of the menu is USDA prime-aged beef — the top 2% of beef available in the United States. Morton's has worked with the same suppliers since day one, with those suppliers selecting the best of their inventory specifically for the brand. If a cut doesn't meet Morton's standards, it simply doesn't make it to the plate. The steakhouse commitment extends well beyond beef, though. The menu also features Chilean Sea Bass, Oysters on the Half Shell, Colossal Shrimp, and Red King Crab Legs, alongside rotating seasonal dishes. Recent additions include a Prime Bavette Steak Frites, Wagyu Beef Stroganoff, Oysters Rockefeller, and a Lobster & Crab Cocktail — items that reflect the kitchen's ongoing appetite for keeping things fresh without abandoning what the steakhouse does best.
The Jacksonville location holds the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, a recognition that reflects a list of more than 300 wines spanning exclusive vintages, sommelier selections, and cult favorites. An on-site Wine Locker program is available for guests who want to store their own bottles, and the team — including General Managers and Sommeliers — is on hand to guide pairings and deepen the experience. Beyond the dining room, Bar 12-21 offers hand-crafted cocktails, imported and local craft brews, and chef-selected bar bites, keeping the energy lively without sacrificing the elegance of the broader space. For private occasions, Morton's accommodates everything from intimate dinners to larger business functions in dedicated private dining rooms, with catering options available as well. Every guest, in Morton's own words, is treated like a VIP.
