The story
The Fountain Room occupies one of Indianapolis's most storied addresses: the former site of the largest Coca-Cola bottling plant in the world, now reborn as the Bottleworks District on Massachusetts Avenue. A century ago, 2.25 million bottles rolled out of this Art Deco building every week. Today, its ornate brass doors, terrazzo floors, and colorful ceramic tiles frame a dining room that honors that grandeur while evolving the American supper club for a contemporary audience.
The restaurant is a collaboration between Clancy's Hospitality, Executive Chef Ricky Martinez, and local design firm Phanomen/Design. Their stated intent is not simply to replicate what has been done before, but to push the format forward — formal yet relaxed, refined yet genuinely accessible. Velvet banquettes, glowing chandeliers, repeating geometric patterns, and a reel-to-reel machine set a mood that is nostalgic without being precious.
Chef Martinez's menu reads as a confident survey of American cooking, anchored by single-sourced Certified Angus Beef. The steak program runs from a 7oz petite filet to an 8oz Australian Wagyu center-cut filet mignon, with the salt-crusted Roast Prime Rib of Beef — available in Queen and King cuts — standing as the supper club centerpiece the room was built for. Beyond the steakhouse staples, the kitchen ventures into fresh seafood (a full raw bar, whole roasted branzino, sea bass with kabayaki glaze), classic pastas like duck confit calamarata, and house-made desserts. Pickled relish trays and house-baked focaccia signal that the old-school touches are intentional, not accidental.
The wine list earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2024 — recognition that reflects the care put into curation and, notably, into the wine-pairing experience the room is designed to support. Sommelier Jamie Murzynowski oversees the front-of-house wine program alongside broader floor management duties.
The Fountain Room's mission, as the team puts it, is "technically excellent service, with an emphasis on warm hospitality" — staff coached to treat every guest as one would in their own home. The result is a room that can absorb a celebratory dinner, a weekend brunch, or a private event with equal ease. Private dining rooms are available for larger gatherings, and weekend brunch runs Saturday and Sunday mornings.
For anyone looking for a defining American dining experience in Indianapolis, The Fountain Room delivers it inside one of the city's most architecturally remarkable spaces.
