The story
Jonathan's Ristorante has held its place on Wall Street in Huntington, NY for over three decades, blending European charm with a contemporary take on Italian cuisine. What began as a cherished neighborhood dining room has earned consistent recognition from both Zagat — which praised its "refined Italian" dishes and "lovely nightly specials" — and Wine Spectator, which has granted the restaurant its Award of Excellence for nine consecutive years. That kind of sustained recognition says something about consistency.
Executive Chef Tito Onofre leads the kitchen, and his menu reflects a clear respect for Italian tradition without being confined by it. Handcrafted pastas are made fresh daily. The menu changes regularly, keeping things grounded in season and ingredient quality.
Antipasti set an assured tone: Arancini arrive as mushroom mini rice balls with truffle aioli; Burrata is paired with grilled peaches and speck; Prosciutto di Parma comes with fresh figs and shaved parmigiano. Among the pasta dishes, the Pappardelle Bolognese draws on Nonna Alba's bolognese sauce, while the Linguine Nere con Gamberi — black linguine with spicy San Marzano tomato sauce and tiger shrimp — brings something bolder to the table. The Cacio e Pepe uses fresh bucatini with pecorino romano, black pepper, and a truffle oil drizzle.
One dish worth noting specifically is the Agnolotti di Zucca: square-shaped pasta pockets filled with pumpkin, finished with parmigiano, amaretti cookie dust, and a butter and sage sauce. It's a dish rooted in northern Italian tradition — pumpkin, or zucca, has been part of the Italian table for centuries — and Jonathan's version leans into that history with care.
Main courses range from a whole deboned Branzino with lemon white wine sauce and sautéed baby artichokes, to an Organic Scottish Salmon with cauliflower, mushrooms, sage, and pomegranate vinaigrette, to an Allen Brothers 16 oz. Grass-Fed NY Strip with truffle butter, salsa verde, and herbed fries.
The wine program is a genuine strength. Bottles are drawn from small vineyards across Italy, California, France, and Australia, served in Riedel glassware. The by-the-glass selection spans Alois Lageder Pinot Grigio from Trentino-Alto Adige to a Brunello di Montalcino from La Columbina. A standing "Wine Down Wednesdays" promotion — 50% off bottles over $100 all evening — speaks to how seriously the list is taken here.
The room itself is designed for comfort: soft lighting, elegant décor, and attentive service calibrated to the occasion, whether that's a quiet dinner for two or a private event for a larger group. Jonathan's accommodates both with the same care.
