Morton's, The Steakhouse

Morton's at Houston's Galleria serves USDA prime-aged beef, fresh seafood, and a Wine Spectator-recognized list of 300+ wines in an elegant setting.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Morton's, The Steakhouse has a founding story that says a great deal about the place: it began with a hamburger. Before co-founders Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch opened their first restaurant, they crossed paths at the Playboy Club in Montreal. Klaus cooked a burger; Arnie tasted it and called it the best he'd ever had. They dubbed it the "Million-Dollar Hamburger," and from that moment, a partnership was formed. In 1978, they opened the original Morton's on State Street in Chicago, built on three principles that still define every location today: quality, consistency, and genuine hospitality.

The Houston Galleria location, at 5000 Westheimer Road, carries that same standard to one of the city's most established dining corridors. As part of a network of more than 65 restaurants worldwide, it benefits from the sourcing relationships Morton's has maintained since day one — the same suppliers, selecting the top cuts for Morton's and holding them to the same exacting standards before a single steak is cut.

The Steakhouse Standard

The beef is USDA Prime-aged, representing the top two percent of beef available in the United States. Morton's is direct about its claim: "The Best Steak...Anywhere." Beyond the steakhouse staples, the menu extends to fresh seafood — Chilean Sea Bass, Oysters on the Half Shell, Colossal Shrimp, Red King Crab Legs — alongside seasonal additions like a Prime Bavette Steak Frites, Wagyu Beef Stroganoff, and Oysters Rockefeller. The kitchen also runs a Bar 12-21 program with hand-crafted cocktails and chef-selected bar bites, keeping the energy lively well beyond dinner service.

Wine Worth Lingering Over

The wine program is a serious undertaking. Morton's holds the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, and every location maintains a list of more than 300 wines spanning exclusive vintages, cult favorites, and sommelier-curated by-the-glass selections. General Managers and Sommeliers are on hand to guide pairings, and the on-site Wine Locker program allows guests to store personal bottles. Morton's has also introduced a private label, "State & Rush," sourced from Oak Ridge Winery in Lodi, California — a Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir that nod to the brand's Chicago origins.

Events and Private Dining

The Houston Galleria location is well set up for private occasions, with intimate dining rooms available for business functions, celebrations, and catered events. Morton's also partners with athletes and charitable foundations for Prime Events — seasonal wine dinners and exclusive menus that bring a different dimension to the steakhouse experience. Every guest, whether at the bar or in a private room, is treated, as Morton's puts it, like a VIP.
