The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Healdsburg's Wine Country Table

At 106 Matheson Street, a historic building in the heart of Healdsburg holds two distinct dining experiences under one roof. The Matheson is the fine dining anchor — a Michelin-recognized American restaurant where Chef Dustin Valette leads a kitchen built on creative collaboration and deep respect for the land. The Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence reflects what the team has assembled here: a program as serious about the glass as it is about the plate.

Chef Dustin Valette and the Micro-Seasonal Kitchen

Valette's guiding principle is straightforward: celebrate ingredients at their peak. The menu shifts with what he calls "micro-seasons," a rhythm tighter than the calendar, driven by what local farmers, ranchers, and artisans are producing right now. Each dish is prepared with finesse and grounded in wine country heritage — American cuisine that speaks directly to its Sonoma County surroundings rather than borrowing from somewhere else.

The Room, the Roof, and the Wine Wall

The main dining room sets the tone for the fine dining experience, while a floating Mezzanine loft above the kitchen offers an intimate setting for winemaker dinners, celebrations, and private gatherings. The energy of the kitchen rises up into it, but the space retains its own quiet atmosphere.

Above it all is Roof 106 — an open-air rooftop restaurant and cocktail bar overlooking Healdsburg Plaza. Wood-fired pizzas, small plates, handcrafted cocktails made with seasonal fruits, flowers, and herbs, and fire pits that keep the evening warm. It operates on a more casual, walk-in-friendly basis, offering a different register entirely from the dining room below.

Then there is the Wine Wall: 88 rotating selections available by the taste, sip, or glass. Guests can design their own flight, trace a single varietal across vintages, or seek out rare bottles from both Sonoma producers and international growers. It is a natural extension of the Wine Spectator-recognized program, and an invitation to explore rather than simply order.

A Place Rooted in Where It Is

The Matheson is not trying to be anywhere other than Healdsburg. The sourcing is local, the seasons are honored, and the hospitality is grounded in Sonoma County's particular generosity. Reservations are strongly encouraged for the fine dining room — the kitchen earns them.
