The Settlers Inn in Hawley, Pennsylvania has built its reputation on one straightforward idea: let the surrounding region set the menu. The kitchen draws from local farms, pastures, and producers, shaping an American dining experience that shifts with the seasons rather than staying fixed to a static list. That commitment earned the restaurant a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence — recognition that reflects both the depth of the wine program and the seriousness of purpose behind the whole operation.

The Dining Rooms and What They Offer

The main dining room serves breakfast daily and dinner every evening of the week, with weekend brunch rounding out the schedule. But two private spaces give The Settlers Inn a character that goes well beyond a standard inn restaurant.

The Ruskin Room — named for the grandfather of the Arts and Crafts movement — seats up to eight guests for a six-course tasting menu at dinner or a prix fixe brunch. Dishes from recent menus show the kitchen's range: Beet Arancini with Creamy Onion Sauce, Monkfish Saltimbocca with Sage and Prosciutto, Pappardelle Bolognese, and a closing Toffee Pudding. It is the kind of American cooking that takes its time and takes its ingredients seriously.

Grant's Woods is something else entirely: an outdoor dining area with posh picnic cabins, hammock chairs, an open-air fire kitchen, and overhead lights strung through the trees. Private cabin dinners serve up to ten people, while summer Monday evenings bring an open-air communal experience centered on grilled fare — smoked St. Louis-style spare ribs, rotisserie chicken, marinated veggie kebabs, and house-made sauces ranging from Miso BBQ to Carolina Gold.

Standout Moments on the Menu

Special event menus reveal how far the kitchen is willing to reach. A Live Fire Game Dinner built around Fossil Farms sourcing moved course by course through smoked duck rillette, rabbit ragù over black pepper cavatelli, lamb kofta, and a roasted elk French rack with blackberry demi-glace — each course paired against competing Sonoma and Napa bottlings. It is the sort of evening that explains why the wine list carries the recognition it does.
