The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Neighborhood Bistro with Serious Credentials

Since opening in 2008, 2 Hopewell Bistro has earned a place at the corner of Hopewell and Main in South Glastonbury, Connecticut, as one of the Hartford area's most consistent dining destinations. The restaurant has held the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence every year since opening — a streak that speaks to the care put into both the cellar and the kitchen.

The atmosphere strikes a balance the restaurant describes well: upscale decor with a casual feel. This is a place where you can order a filet mignon or simply pull up a stool for a grass-fed burger and a well-made cocktail, without either choice feeling out of place.

Fresh, Local American Cooking

The kitchen's philosophy centers on natural meats, fresh ocean seafood, and locally grown produce. The menu reads as contemporary American with global influences woven in — not for novelty, but because the combinations hold up on the plate.

Small plates set the tone: tuna carpaccio arrives with shoyu-mirin, avocado, togarashi yuca, and macadamia; pork belly is paired with sweet potato purée and apple slaw; the seacoast mushroom toast comes on Small State Provisions sourdough with truffle ricotta and cranberry hot honey. These are composed, confident dishes.

Among the mains, Point Judith scallops over corn risotto with gremolata showcase the kitchen's affinity for New England seafood. The squid ink linguini — loaded with lobster, shrimp, and scallops in a Calabrian chili lemon caper butter — is a statement dish. For those leaning toward land, the short rib of beef with ricotta gnocchi, chorizo, mushrooms, and port wine demi is a reliable anchor, and the Berkshire pork chop with mango chutney shows the same attention to sourcing.

The Bar and Wine Program

The cocktail list is inventive without being overwrought — a barrel-aged negroni, a bourbon old fashioned built with vanilla and cardamom bitters, and a handful of zero-proof options that go well beyond soda water. The wine list, which earned its first Wine Spectator recognition in 2010 and has continued annually, spans Napa Cabernets, Sonoma Pinots, and a solid selection of European bottles, all available by the glass or bottle.

For Groups and Special Occasions

2 Hopewell also accommodates private events and catering, and the outdoor seating adds another dimension when the weather cooperates. Reservations are strongly recommended — the restaurant accepts them for both the tavern and the main dining room, though outdoor tables are booked only a day ahead given Connecticut's weather.
