Harrisburg's Great American Steakhouse

Central Pennsylvania's answer to the great American steakhouse sits at Market Square in downtown Harrisburg, where 1700° Steakhouse has set the standard for prime beef and fine dining in the region. The name is no affectation — it refers to the searing temperature that locks in the character of Midwestern prime beef, dry-aged beef, and certified Angus beef, each cut prepared with what the kitchen calls "simple, sophisticated preparations."

The Room

The setting earns its reputation before a single plate arrives. Large windows look out over Market Square, while two dining rooms are finished with leather and cowhide accents and feature photography on the walls. The centerpiece is an eight-foot-high glass wine wall housing more than one thousand bottles — a fitting monument in a restaurant whose wine program earned Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence in 2020. The integrated lobby lounge, anchored by a 12-foot two-sided fireplace, strikes the balance the restaurant aims for throughout: comfortable and sophisticated in equal measure. All dinner guests receive complimentary valet parking.

The Kitchen

Executive Chef Anthony Bianco brings a rigorous background to the steakhouse. A mathematics student turned culinary professional, Bianco trained at Harrisburg Area Community College before working his way through the Hilton Harrisburg's kitchens — including a stint as sous chef — where he helped earn a DiRoNA award for the property's flagship dining room. He was instrumental in launching 1700° Steakhouse itself, and in November 2020 was named Executive Chef overseeing all culinary operations at the Hilton Harrisburg. The Central Penn Business Journal recognized him with a Forty Under 40 Award.

Alongside the steakhouse's prime beef program, the menu extends to the finest sustainable seafood — a deliberate complement to the beef-forward identity of the restaurant.

Wine and Events

The wine wall is more than décor. The program behind it — recognized by Wine Spectator — supports an active calendar of food-and-wine pairing dinners, from walk-around tastings of Trinchero Family Estates varietals to multi-course seated dinners featuring the women winemakers of Jackson Family Wines. These events reflect a genuine enthusiasm for the table that goes beyond the expected steakhouse experience.
