The story
Aperiti Osteria is a trattoria-style restaurant on Garth Road in Scarsdale, New York, built on a straightforward conviction: authentic Italian cuisine can only be achieved through the finest ingredients sourced directly from the people who grow and make them. To that end, the team behind Aperiti has forged direct relationships with farmers and artisans across Italy, so that every item on the menu carries a traceable piece of the country with it. That commitment earned the restaurant recognition from Gambero Rosso, one of Italy's most respected food authorities — a meaningful validation for an Italian kitchen operating in the New York suburbs.
Aperiti is the work of owner Vincenzo Alaia and executive chef Camillo Bassani, who came to the project from Cafe Alaia. Together they set out to create a space where guests feel like family — a trattoria in the true sense, warm and unpretentious, with serious attention paid to what arrives on the plate.
The menu reads as a confident tour through Italian cooking. Pizzas are built on San Marzano tomatoes and mozzarella fior di latte, with options ranging from the classic Margherita to the Tartufina Bianca — a white pizza layered with black truffle cream, ricotta, and Parmigiano Reggiano. Starters include saffron arancini served with a Parmigiano fondue, grilled lamb meatballs in porcini mushroom fondue, and imported burrata with cherry tomato and basil.
Among the pasta and mains, homemade cavatelli comes with sweet Italian sausage and mushrooms, while paccheri is paired with a lamb Bolognese. The kitchen also offers pan-seared chicken with lemon, white wine, capers and artichoke, and oven-roasted salmon with grilled asparagus and sun-dried tomato coulis.
Aperiti describes itself as a "beautiful, new trattoria style restaurant" — cozy, welcoming, and suited for both everyday dining and private gatherings. The restaurant accommodates private parties and offers weekend brunch alongside its regular dinner service.
