The story
Perry's Steakhouse & Grille traces its roots to 1979, when Bob Perry opened a modest meat market in Houston, Texas. The shop quickly became a neighborhood staple, built on the straightforward promise of top-quality cuts and honest service. In 1986, Bob's son Chris Perry joined the business and persuaded his father to add dining tables — a small change that would prove transformative. The loyal following that gathered around those first tables inspired Chris to take the next step, and in 1993 Perry's Steakhouse & Grille was born.
Decades later, the Grapevine location on West Highway 114 carries that same butcher-shop DNA into a full fine dining setting. The steakhouse has grown into what the brand itself describes as one of the country's premier restaurants, now operating across Texas and in cities from Chicago to Miami — yet it remains, in the Perry's own words, "true to its neighborhood butcher shop roots."
The centerpiece of any visit is USDA Prime beef, selected and prepared with the precision you'd expect from a family that has spent over four decades sourcing meat. The tableside carving of Perry's Famous Pork Chop has become a signature ritual — attentive staff bring the dish to the table and carve it in front of guests, a moment of theatre grounded in craft rather than showmanship.
Beyond the main event, Perry's Bar 79 invites guests to settle in for handcrafted cocktails, craft beer, and a carefully assembled portfolio of Reserve Wines. It's the kind of bar where an evening can begin or end equally well. The wine program's depth earned the Grapevine restaurant a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence — recognition that reflects the care taken in pairing the cellar to the kitchen.
The Perry family's commitment to quality has since branched into additional concepts — CARVE American Grille in Austin, which leans on live fire and wood-smoke techniques, and VERDAD True Modern Mexican, also in Austin, which brings a contemporary approach to traditional Mexican flavors. Each concept shares the same foundation: ingredient quality, attentive service, and a clear sense of where it came from.
At the Grapevine steakhouse, that foundation shows up in every detail — from the reserve wine list to the private dining rooms suited for celebrations and corporate gatherings, to the outdoor seating and catering options that extend Perry's hospitality well beyond the dining room walls.
