The story
Morton's The Steakhouse traces its origins to an unlikely spark. Co-founders Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch first crossed paths at the Playboy Club in Montreal, where Klaus cooked a hamburger that stopped Arnie in his tracks. He rushed into the kitchen demanding to know who was responsible — and when Klaus stepped forward, Arnie declared it the best he'd ever tasted. They called it the "Million-Dollar Hamburger," and the partnership it forged led to the opening of the first Morton's on State Street in Chicago in 1978. More than four decades later, the chain has grown to over 65 locations worldwide, with the Orlando location on Dr. Phillips Blvd. carrying forward the same founding principles: quality, consistency, and genuine hospitality.
At the heart of the menu is USDA prime-aged beef — the top 2% of beef available in the United States. Morton's has worked with the same suppliers since day one, and the standard is uncompromising: if the beef doesn't meet Morton's specifications, it doesn't get cut. The result is what the restaurant straightforwardly calls "The Best Steak...Anywhere."
But this steakhouse doesn't stop at beef. The seafood program is a serious complement to the menu, with options like Chilean Sea Bass, Oysters on the Half Shell, Colossal Shrimp, and Red King Crab Legs. Pairing prime-aged steak and seafood is, as Morton's puts it, "a classic dining experience that represents the finest from land and sea." Seasonal additions — including dishes like Prime Bavette Steak Frites, Wagyu Beef Stroganoff, Oysters Rockefeller, and Lobster & Crab Cocktail — keep the menu fresh without abandoning its foundations.
The wine program is a point of genuine pride. Morton's holds the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence and maintains a list of more than 300 wines at each location. Exclusive vintages, private wine lockers, sommelier selections, and rotating "Bottle Shock" features give serious wine drinkers plenty to explore. The team includes trained sommeliers and General Managers who are on hand to guide pairings, and Morton's also hosts the Guild of Sommeliers for exclusive tastings in select private dining rooms.
Bar 12-21 brings a livelier dimension to the experience — hand-crafted cocktails, craft beers, and chef-selected bar bites in a setting that hums with energy. For those seeking something more intimate, private dining rooms accommodate business functions, special events, and charity evenings, including Morton's Prime Events series, which has partnered with athletes and their foundations for celebrity server nights and exclusive one-of-a-kind menus.
What distinguishes Morton's beyond the plate is a culture of care that the brand has maintained since 1978. Staff longevity — with managers and team members who have stayed for decades — speaks to an environment where people genuinely invest in the guest experience. Every visitor, whether stopping in for cocktails at the bar or hosting a formal dinner, is treated as a VIP.
