The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

New American West in a Landmark Setting

Range occupies a genuinely striking address: the beautifully restored Colorado National Bank building at the corner of 17th and Champa Streets, inside the Renaissance Denver Downtown City Center Hotel. The architecture — high ceilings, historic bones, modern energy — sets the tone for what arrives at the table. This is American steakhouse cooking pushed firmly into the present, drawing on Colorado's ranching and farming traditions while applying considered, contemporary technique.

The Kitchen's Point of View

The menu is built around the Rocky Mountain region, and that commitment shows in specific, honest ways. Steaks and chops lean heavily on local provenance: Colorado-raised bison New York strip, a 7oz Colorado wagyu coulotte, mountain-raised elk tenderloin served with blackberry and carrot, and Colorado lamb chops alongside cauliflower purée and potato pavé. The dry-aged ribeye — certified Angus beef — and the prime cuts from Harris Ranch round out a serious steakhouse selection, each served with the kitchen's signature Range-1 sauce.

Starters reflect the same regional sensibility. Bone marrow arrives with poblano cheddar cornbread and bacon onion jam. A sausage platter features smoked elk jalapeño sausage alongside chef-made links, smoked cheese, and giardiniera. Smoked trout with trout roe, celeriac, and mojo verde shows the kitchen is equally comfortable with lighter, more delicate flavors. The New American approach extends to soups — lobster corn bisque with poblano and crema, a French onion built on roasted mushroom stock — and to vegetable-forward options like cauliflower steak with kosho and spring pesto.

The Bar and the Wine List

The cocktail program leans into Western character with names like Jesse James (bonded bourbon, cherry liqueur, smoked wood) and the C.N.B. Old Fashioned, made with a hand-selected Laws single barrel four-grain bourbon — a nod to the Colorado National Bank history of the building. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday, 3–6 PM, with live music added Monday through Thursday from 4–7 PM.

The wine list earned Range the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, a recognition that reflects genuine depth and curation. Bottles span Willamette Valley Pinot Noirs, Napa Cabernets from producers like Caymus, Silver Oak, and Duckhorn, through to Argentine Malbec and beyond — a list broad enough to complement both a wagyu coulotte and a plate of smoked trout.

The Space and the Experience

Complimentary valet parking, a private dining program for groups of ten or more, and proximity to the Colorado Convention Center make Range a practical choice as well as a pleasurable one. The combination of a landmark interior, locally grounded American steakhouse cooking, and a wine program recognized at a national level gives the restaurant a character that holds up well beyond the hotel context it calls home.
