The story
Morton's The Steakhouse traces its origins to an unlikely moment: co-founders Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch, both working at the Playboy Club in Montreal, were brought together by a single hamburger that Arnie declared the best he'd ever tasted. That encounter — and what they called the "Million-Dollar Hamburger" — set in motion a partnership that would open its first restaurant on State Street in Chicago in 1978. More than four decades later, Morton's has grown to over 65 locations worldwide, with the Cleveland outpost on W. Second St. carrying forward the same founding principles: quality, consistency, and genuine hospitality.
At its core, Morton's Cleveland is a steakhouse built around one unwavering commitment — USDA prime-aged beef, representing the top 2% of beef available in the United States. The same suppliers have been used since day one, and every cut must meet Morton's standards before it reaches the plate. Alongside the prime beef, the kitchen offers fresh seafood that holds its own: Chilean Sea Bass, Oysters on the Half Shell, Colossal Shrimp, and Red King Crab Legs. Seasonal menu additions — including a Prime Bavette Steak Frites, Wagyu Beef Stroganoff, and Oysters Rockefeller — keep the offering current without chasing trends.
The wine program at Morton's Cleveland has earned the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, a recognition that reflects a list of more than 300 wines spanning exclusive vintages, sommelier selections, and cult favorites. Private wine lockers are available on-site, and the restaurant's dedicated sommelier team is on hand to guide pairings. Morton's has also introduced a private label, "State & Rush," honoring its Chicago roots with Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir sourced from Oak Ridge Winery in Lodi, California.
The dining rooms at this Cleveland steakhouse move fluidly between moods — a bustling bar scene anchored by hand-crafted cocktails, an elegant main room suited to business dinners or special occasions, and intimate private dining rooms available for events, wine dinners, and gatherings of any size. Catering and private chef services extend the experience beyond the restaurant walls. Whatever the occasion, Morton's operates with the same ethos it always has: every guest treated like a VIP, every detail accounted for.
