The story
The building at 623 Euclid Avenue has been accumulating history since 1893, when the sons of President James A. Garfield commissioned architect Henry Ives Cobb to raise what became Cleveland's first steel-frame skyscraper — a tribute to their father, a Cleveland native assassinated before his time. The Italian marble staircase and wainscoting installed then are still there. So are the Corinthian columns added when Guardian Savings and Trust took over in 1914, and the gilded tiles that survived decades of banking operations under National City Bank and then PNC.
In 2017, Cleveland's Millennia Companies — led by CEO Frank Sinito — transformed the building's opulent ground-floor banking hall into Marble Room Steaks & Raw Bar. The lower-level vaults, once among the largest in the country, became an ultra-exclusive private event space simply called The Vault. The bank president's office on the second floor is now the Garfield Lounge. A bar was fashioned from the facades of safe deposit boxes. Antique teller call buttons still line the staircase wall. The ambiance Sinito was after, he has said, echoes the long-gone Theatrical Bar and Grill on Short Vincent Street: "that vibe of you never know who you're going to see, or what you're going to see."
The kitchen takes the same range-of-ambition approach as the room itself. The steakhouse side runs from a 6 oz filet mignon through a dry-aged Delmonico and a long-bone Tomahawk, with A5 Miyazaki Wagyu strip loin available for those who want to go further. The raw bar opens with oysters on the half shell and a full seafood tasting of lobster, shrimp, oysters, and ceviche, and extends to a caviar service featuring Marble Room's private-label Imperial Osetra by Tsar Nicoulai. Sushi — including a Surf-n-Turf Roll of steak tataki, lobster, and avocado, and a Hamachi Jalapeño Crudo with truffle ponzu — adds a third dimension that sets this apart from a conventional steakhouse. The seafood program is broad enough that Only in Your State named it "Ohio's Best Steakhouse & Raw Oyster Bar" in 2024.
The wine list earned Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence, a recognition that reflects both depth and thoughtful curation. Signature wine dinners, hosted in The Vault with acclaimed wineries, are a recurring fixture on the calendar.
Marble Room is widely regarded as the standout fine-dining destination between New York and Chicago, and the rankings bear that out: TripAdvisor placed it #15 among all fine-dining restaurants in the United States in its 2025 Best of the Best Travelers' Choice list. The restaurant also appears on Yelp's Top 100 Date Night Restaurants in America and has received Cleveland Magazine's reader-voted Silver Spoon recognition.
Private dining options are as varied as the building's architecture. The Vault accommodates 16 to 40 guests. The Peacock Reception Rooms can be configured for up to 130. Smaller executive boardrooms seat 6 to 12. For any of them, the setting — coffered ceilings, marble columns, restored woodwork — does considerable work before the first course arrives.
