The story
Lago East Bank is a Cleveland Italian restaurant built on something rarer than technique: genuine family conviction. The Salerno family opened their first Lago in Tremont in August 2006 — on the very same day their daughter Sofia was born — and the overlap of personal and professional life has shaped everything about the place ever since. In 2013, they brought the concept back to the Flats, building Lago East Bank on the city's East Bank and continuing what they describe simply as "our wild ride." Nicole and the extended Salerno family, along with a devoted staff, run the room with the stated belief that guests are everything.
From Sicilian roots, Chef Fabio leads a kitchen that treats innovation and tradition not as opposites but as partners. The guiding principles are straightforward: fresh and nutritious ingredients, meticulous attention to flavor, and the kind of Italian cooking that was always meant to be shared. The menu spans brunch, lunch, dinner, happy hour, and late-night service — a range that reflects how seriously the team takes hospitality at every hour, not just prime time.
The beverage side of Lago East Bank earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2023, recognition that reflects the restaurant's deliberate approach to its wine list. Every bottle on the list is available by the glass or half carafe — no guest is pushed toward a compromise. The team has made a point of sourcing spirits and wines that are difficult to find elsewhere in the market, and the beer list is described as carefully crafted rather than generic. The philosophy is direct: there is no bottom shelf here, and everyone starts at the top.
Beyond the main dining room, Lago East Bank offers private dining, catering, and event hosting — making it one of the more versatile Italian restaurants in Cleveland for both everyday meals and larger gatherings. A food truck extends the family's reach further into the city. Regular events like Brunch Bingo keep the atmosphere lively and community-oriented, consistent with a restaurant that has spent nearly two decades treating its guests as part of the family.
