The story
Open since 2020 inside the Lytle Park Hotel on Pike Street, Subito brings northern Italian cuisine to Cincinnati with a confidence that has earned it a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. The dining room flows naturally from the hotel lobby, anchored by an iconic crown-shaped pendant bar and framed by large-scale floral screens, warm wood, and rich brass tones. Comfortable booths face an open kitchen where guests can watch the team at work — heads down, firing plates, wiping edges before service.
As Sami Stewart wrote in Citybeat: "Subito serves scratch-made Italian dishes in a white-tablecloth, jazzy environment where you can indulge in the rich flavors of northern Italy and the warm hospitality of The Lytle's waitstaff without booking a room."
Executive Chef Joseph Helm has been with Subito from the beginning. A graduate of The Pennsylvania Culinary Institute, Helm joined the opening team in 2019 as Chef de Cuisine and took over as Executive Chef in early 2021, having already been named Manager of the Year at the hotel in 2020. His background spans stints as Executive Chef at Celestial Steakhouse, Mt. Adams Fish House, and co-ownership of Panino — experience that shows in the range and precision of Subito's menu.
The Italian menu covers considerable ground without losing focus. Homemade pastas are a throughline: the Cacio e Pepe arrives as angel hair with grana padano, black pepper, and pecorino romano; Mafalde Bolognese layers ground pork and veal with san marzano tomato and barolo. Brick oven pizzas — including the Pepperoni & Italian Honey with chili flake, and the Pizza E Mortazza with mortadella, burrata, and pistachio — share the menu with a raw bar and traditional antipasti like Burrata Al Tartufo and Fried Calamari with saffron-tomato sauce.
From the grill, hand-selected steaks are finished in an infrared broiler: a 16 oz Delmonico Ribeye, a 14 oz New York Strip, and an 8 oz Filet, each served with tuscan potatoes. Seafood options include Scallops with fava bean and white wine reduction, and Halibut with lemon cream and cider lavender vinaigrette.
The wine cellar — recognized by Wine Spectator — offers fine Italian and American bottles alongside the restaurant's own Lytle Park limoncello. Talented mixologists round out the drinks program with regionally inspired cocktails, and live music plays every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evening.
Subito runs a full day. Weekday breakfasts feature Italian-inflected dishes like Crespelle with spinach, mushroom, and ricotta alongside Cincinnati staples such as Goetta Hash. Weekend brunch extends the offer further. The adjacent Oak Room accommodates private dinners for up to twelve. On weekends, the Lytle Park Tea Tradition brings afternoon high tea service — hand-selected teas, delicate pastries, and savory bites — into the same space that turns white-tablecloth Italian by evening.
