The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Wine Bar Built Around Curiosity

Ripple Wine Bar operates two locations — one in Covington, Kentucky and one in Cincinnati's O'Bryonville neighborhood — united by a single, clear-eyed philosophy: wine should be approachable, exploratory, and worth talking about. The bar earned Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence in 2025, a recognition that reflects the genuine depth and curation behind its lists rather than mere volume.

The wine program is the heart of everything here. Ripple claims the largest selection of wine by the glass in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati, with over 40 wines available by the half glass — an unusual generosity that lets guests range freely across regions and styles. The lists move between seasonal favorites, timeless classics, and boutique hard-to-finds: a Slovenian orange Pinot Grigio sits alongside a Chinon Cabernet Franc from the Loire, a Sicilian Frappato, and a Grower Champagne. A dedicated "From the Vault" section surfaces older vintages and prestige bottles for those who want to dig deeper. There are also natural wines, a thoughtful mocktail list, and craft cocktails — the Viola Lee pairs Empress Indigo gin with crème de violet and prosecco; the Friend of the Devil leans into Four Roses bourbon and blackberry.

Seasonal Food That Earns Its Place on the Table

The kitchen keeps pace with the wine list through a menu of seasonal small plates and petite entrees designed specifically for pairing. At the Covington location, the food ranges from a charcuterie board built from carefully sourced cheeses and cured meats — including Urban Stead cheddar from East Walnut Hills and Prosciutto di Parma — to more composed plates: blackened Shrimp and Grits with cheddar grits and Alabama white BBQ, pan-seared Scallops with corn, chorizo, and romesco, and a Forager Flatbread with house quark, goat cheese, mushrooms, and truffle oil. The kitchen is, by one guest's account, a tiny space behind the bar — which makes the output all the more striking.

The Kind of Place That Gets Better Each Visit

Ripple is warm without being precious. The staff is described by regulars as knowledgeable and genuinely enthusiastic — the sort of people who will steer you toward something unexpected and be right about it. One guest put it plainly: "Ask your server what's good and have them recommend — you won't be disappointed." Another called it "Napa in Kentucky," noting that the atmosphere encourages strangers to talk across tables and leave knowing something new.

For those who want to extend the relationship beyond a single evening, Ripple runs a wine club — the Wine Cats — offering monthly selections of handpicked boutique bottles, and a bottle shop where wines are sold at retail prices. Private events are accommodated at both locations, with the team handling the details once you bring the people.
