The story
Astor Club occupies the historic Maxim's de Paris space on East Goethe Street in Chicago's Gold Coast, and its Chef's Table is the most exclusive thing inside it. The entry alone sets the tone: guests pass through a restored art nouveau vestibule, then descend an onyx-hued spiral staircase into a softly lit, speakeasy-style space before being led into a private dining room with brass-inlay paneling and a communal table that seats exactly ten.
That deliberate sense of arrival is not incidental — it is part of what Forbes Travel Guide recognized when awarding the Chef's Table at Astor Club its Four-Star rating for 2026.
At the center of the experience is Chef Trevor Teich, a Michelin star recipient since 2022. His tasting menus blend modern techniques with classical influences and rotate with the seasons, so no two evenings are identical. Teich often steps out between courses to introduce each dish personally — sharing the sourcing discovery, the seasonal inspiration, or the technique behind the plate. It is that layer of storytelling, unhurried and genuine, that distinguishes the pacing here from a conventional tasting format.
Each evening runs eight to ten courses, with every plate introducing a new technique or ingredient. Forbes Travel Guide's assessors noted dishes such as a delicate oyster with champagne espuma and cucumber sorbet, and a porcini mushroom tart with duxelles and caviar — the kind of precision work that reflects Teich's Michelin-level craft without ever feeling cold or performative.
Beverage pairings are tiered to match the ambition of the food: a Cellar Wine pairing, a Select Wine option, curated cocktails, and a non-alcoholic alternative are all available. Rare reserve selections, bracing aperitifs, and slow-aged spirits are chosen to mirror the arc of the meal rather than simply accompany it.
Although Astor Club is a private members' club, the Chef's Table is accessible to non-members through a dedicated Chef's Table Membership tier — a distinction that keeps the room feeling like an exclusive enclave without requiring full club commitment. Seating is capped at ten guests per evening, reservations open approximately ninety days in advance, and pricing runs $325 per guest on weekdays and $395 on weekends. Private experiences for parties of five or more can also be arranged.
