Morton's, The Steakhouse

Morton's Charlotte serves USDA prime-aged beef, fresh seafood, and a Wine Spectator-awarded list of 300+ wines in an elegant setting on W. Trade St.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Morton's, The Steakhouse has a story that begins not with a grand vision, but with a hamburger. Co-founders Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch first crossed paths at the Playboy Club in Montreal, where Klaus cooked a burger so good that Arnie burst into the kitchen demanding to know who made it. That encounter produced what they called the "Million-Dollar Hamburger" — and, eventually, a steakhouse empire that opened its first doors on State Street in Chicago in 1978. Today, more than 65 locations later, the Charlotte outpost on W. Trade Street carries forward the same founding principles: quality, consistency, and genuine hospitality.

The Steak, and Then Some

At this steakhouse, the beef is the anchor. Morton's sources USDA prime-aged beef from the same suppliers it has used since day one — suppliers who select the best of their inventory specifically for Morton's, and whose product is turned away if it doesn't meet the restaurant's standards. That commitment to the top 2% of beef available in the United States is what the kitchen builds its reputation on.

The menu extends well beyond the grill, though. Chilean sea bass, oysters on the half shell, colossal shrimp, and red king crab legs sit alongside the prime cuts, and the kitchen regularly introduces seasonal dishes — recent additions have included Prime Bavette Steak Frites, Wagyu Beef Stroganoff, Oysters Rockefeller, and a Lobster & Crab Cocktail.

A Wine Program Worth Noting

The Charlotte location holds the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, a recognition that reflects a list of more than 300 wines spanning exclusive vintages, sommelier selections, and cult favorites. Private wine lockers are available on-site, and the restaurant's sommelier team is on hand to guide pairings across every course. Morton's has also introduced a private label, "State & Rush," honoring its Chicago roots with a Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir sourced from Oak Ridge Winery in Lodi, California.

The Room and the Occasion

The atmosphere at Morton's Charlotte blends classic and contemporary — a lively bar scene anchored by hand-crafted cocktails alongside elegant dining rooms that work equally well for a business dinner, a celebration, or a quiet evening out. Private dining rooms and full catering services make it a practical choice for events of all sizes, and the ethos running through the operation is straightforward: every guest is treated like a VIP.
