A Story That Started with a Hamburger

Morton's The Steakhouse traces its origins to a chance encounter between co-founders Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch, who both worked at the Playboy Club in Montreal. When Klaus cooked a hamburger that Arnie tasted, the reaction was immediate — Arnie burst into the kitchen demanding to know who made it, then declared it the best he'd ever had. They called it the "Million-Dollar Hamburger," and the partnership that followed led to the opening of the first Morton's on State Street in Chicago in 1978. More than four decades later, the brand has grown to over 65 locations worldwide, with the Boston Seaport address bringing that same founding ethos — quality, consistency, genuine hospitality — to the Massachusetts waterfront.

The Steakhouse Standard

At the heart of the menu is USDA prime-aged beef, representing the top 2% of beef available in the United States. Morton's has used the same suppliers since day one, and those suppliers reserve their best inventory specifically for Morton's — if it doesn't meet the standard, it doesn't get cut. The steakhouse experience extends beyond beef: Chilean sea bass, oysters on the half shell, colossal shrimp, and red king crab legs round out the menu, with the kitchen also rotating seasonal dishes. Recent additions have included a Prime Bavette Steak Frites, Wagyu Beef Stroganoff, Oysters Rockefeller, and a Lobster & Crab Cocktail, alongside new seasonal cocktails.

The dining room is designed to work for a range of occasions — cocktails at the bar, a quiet dinner, a business meal, or a private event. Intimate private dining rooms host everything from corporate functions to charity events, including Morton's Prime Events, where the restaurant partners with athletes and their foundations for exclusive evenings.

Wine at the Center

The wine program is a genuine point of distinction. Morton's Boston holds the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, a recognition that reflects a list of more than 300 wines spanning exclusive vintages, sommelier selections, and cult favorites. Private wine lockers are available on-site, and the restaurant's Bar 12-21 pairs that collection with hand-crafted cocktails and chef-selected bar bites. General managers and sommeliers are on hand to guide pairings, and the team is drawn from a dedicated Sommelier Group that Morton's has built to maintain a serious wine culture across all its locations.

For a steakhouse in Boston's Seaport district, Morton's offers something that goes well beyond a reliable cut of beef — it's a room where the details, from the sourcing of the meat to the depth of the wine list, have been taken seriously for a very long time.
