Celebrated table

Harvest

A Harvard Square institution since 1975, Harvest serves seasonal contemporary American cuisine with a proud legacy of celebrated chefs and a Wine Spectator-honored wine list.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

True to Cambridge Since 1975

From a quiet walkway off Brattle Street in Harvard Square, Harvest has been defining and redefining the contemporary American table for five decades. What began in 1975 as a serious commitment to seasonal, locally sourced cooking has grown into one of Cambridge's most enduring dining institutions — a place that feels as relevant today as it did when it first opened its doors.

The restaurant is part of Himmel Hospitality Group, led by President Chris Himmel, a Cornell Hotel School graduate who trained under Danny Meyer and Thomas Keller. That pedigree shows in the details: a driving commitment to the finest ingredients, a rigorously trained staff, and a dining room that balances warmth with genuine sophistication.

A Kitchen That Made Careers

Harvest's most remarkable distinction may be its alumni roster. Over the decades, its bar and kitchen have served as a proving ground for some of the most celebrated names in American cooking, including Lydia Shire, Barbara Lynch, Frank McClelland, Sara Moulton, Chris Schlesinger, Scott Bryan, and Bob Kinkead. The restaurant describes it plainly: "a proud lineage of talent have used our bar and kitchen as a proving ground to experiment, delight and develop styles and recipes which would go on to become their signatures."

Today, culinary operations are overseen by Chef Partner Robert Sisca, a New York native and Johnson & Wales graduate who began his career at the three-Michelin-starred Le Bernardin. Known for thoughtfully sourced ingredients and globally inspired flavors, Sisca brings that same spirit of rigorous craft to Harvest's seasonal menus. Executive Pastry Chef Tab Volpe — who previously oversaw pastry for Barbara Lynch's restaurants — delivers desserts grounded in classic French technique but with bold, distinctive character.

Seasonal Menus, Local Roots

The menu is a celebration of New England farmers and purveyors, with the kitchen drawing on local sourcing as a foundation for contemporary American cooking. The dinner menu moves from a raw bar — East Coast oysters, tuna crudo with champagne sabayon, a dramatic Harvest Tower — through pastas like pan-fried gnocchi with poached lobster, and on to entrées such as wild Atlantic swordfish, halibut with roasted artichokes, and a grilled Brandt ribeye.

The Chef's Seasonal Tasting Menu offers a more structured expression of the kitchen's ambitions: a recent spring edition moved through white asparagus grenobloise, spinach and ricotta raviolo, tempura soft-shell crab, grilled baby lamb chops, and an apricot Paris-Brest — each course paired with a considered wine selection. That wine program, guided by Beverage Director Ben Chesna (an Advanced Certification holder with the Court of Master Sommeliers), earned Harvest a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence, a recognition that speaks to both depth and curation.

Fireside, Al Fresco, or In Between

The space offers genuine variety: a spacious bar, fireside dining room, and a covered, heated all-weather terrace designed for year-round outdoor dining. Cambridge, as the restaurant notes, loves dining al fresco — and Harvest has built a setting to match that appetite. Private and semi-private dining options accommodate everything from intimate gatherings to extended family celebrations.

Lunch runs Monday through Friday with its own prix fixe, and weekend brunch rounds out a week that leaves few occasions uncatered. Through all of it, the ethos remains consistent: adventurous ideas, beautiful ingredients, and a respect for the American culinary traditions that this kitchen has helped shape.
