The story
The story of Perry's Steakhouse & Grille begins not in a white-tablecloth dining room but behind a meat counter. In 1979, Bob Perry opened a modest butcher shop in Houston, Texas — a neighborhood staple built on the promise of top-quality cuts and honest service. By 1986, his son Chris Perry had persuaded him to add dining tables, and the response from loyal customers made the next step inevitable. Chris opened Perry's Steakhouse & Grille in 1993, and the concept has since grown into one of the country's premier steakhouse groups, with the Birmingham location bringing that same tradition to Alabama.
Perry's Steakhouse describes its philosophy as "perfecting prime since 1979," and the menu reflects that lineage directly. The kitchen works with USDA Prime beef, and the dining room carries on the butcher shop ritual through tableside carvings — most notably the Famous Pork Chop, a signature that has become synonymous with the Perry's experience. Handcrafted cocktails, an extensive portfolio of Reserve Wines, and bar bites at Perry's Bar 79 round out an evening that moves comfortably between relaxed and refined.
That wine program earned the Birmingham steakhouse a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, a recognition that speaks to the depth and curation behind the list rather than its sheer size.
Perry's calls its approach "Rare and Well Done®" — a phrase that captures both the range of the kitchen and a broader commitment to service. The attentive staff, the tableside ritual, the carefully sourced ingredients: each element traces back to the butcher shop roots that the Perry family has never abandoned, even as the brand has expanded across more than two dozen locations nationwide.
For Birmingham diners, the Perimeter Park South address offers the full Perry's steakhouse experience — private event spaces, outdoor seating, and a room suited equally to a business lunch and a celebratory dinner.
