The story
Inside the storied Armour & Company meatpacking building on 1st Avenue North, Armour House occupies a space that carries genuine history. The building's industrial past feels entirely fitting for what the restaurant has become: a fine dining steakhouse and brasserie where dry-aged beef is treated as craft, and where European influences meet bold Southern ingredients without apology.
The restaurant is the product of a collaborative vision — entrepreneurs, designers, and culinary professionals who set out to build something more than a place to eat. The result is a room designed for connection, whether that means a long dinner with colleagues, a celebratory evening, or simply a well-made cocktail at the bar.
Executive Chef and Partner Nick Bracero frames the menu as "a refined take on steakhouse dining — an invitation to savor thoughtfully prepared dishes that celebrate the season's best ingredients." That philosophy plays out across a menu that moves from a raw bar stocked with fresh oysters sourced from across the country and a full seafood tower, through small plates like hamachi crudo, beef tartare, and crispy pork belly, and on to the main event: proteins including Australian Wagyu beef tenderloin and seared Gulf fish, each prepared to let the ingredient lead.
Monday and Tuesday evenings shift the register slightly with burger night — the same kitchen, a more relaxed occasion.
The wine program has earned Armour House a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for 2025, recognition that reflects the seriousness with which the list is curated. Wine Director Logan Turner leads what the team calls "story-driven wine experiences," and the cellar is deep enough to anchor dedicated tasting events alongside the regular dinner service.
Directly beneath Armour House sits Pogo Cocktail Bar, a sister concept overseen by Spirits Director Carla Irene. Live jazz, artisanal cocktails, and a distinctly different atmosphere make it a natural extension of an evening that begins upstairs — or a destination in its own right. The two spaces share a building and a sensibility, even as they serve different moods.
Armour House operates as a neighborhood brasserie in the truest sense — sophisticated without being stiff, locally rooted without being parochial. Complimentary valet is offered, and the space accommodates private parties and larger events alongside its regular dinner service. For anyone serious about American steakhouse cooking in Birmingham, it is the clear reference point.
