The story
Tallulah Crafted Food and Wine Bar takes its name from the small Louisiana town of Tallulah — a choice that signals exactly what this restaurant is about: a genuine connection to place. Located inside the Renaissance Baton Rouge Hotel on Bluebonnet Boulevard, it serves what the kitchen calls "notable, indigenous cuisine from around Louisiana," with house-crafted menu items that interpret local flavors in fresh and distinctive ways.
Executive Chef Reid Henderson leads the culinary direction with a refined approach to modern southern cooking. Blending classical technique with regional ingredients, his menus honor Louisiana's Creole traditions while pushing them forward through clean flavors, thoughtful presentation, and a deep respect for seasonality. The result is cooking that feels both elegant and approachable — never stiff, always rooted in a sense of place.
On the floor, Food & Beverage Director Jason Hebert brings his own Louisiana story. A Baton Rouge native and Louisiana Culinary Institute graduate, Hebert spent a decade working across the country before returning home, transitioning from kitchen work to leading the front of house. His knowledge of hospitality, from a AAA Four Diamond hotel background upward, shapes the attentive, informed service guests consistently praise.
Guests have singled out the perfectly seared scallops with risotto, the Creole Burger with candied bacon and tomato, and the Brisket Fries as dishes worth returning for. The bar runs daily until midnight and pours an extensive selection of fine wines by the glass, local brews on tap, and specialty cocktails — a program strong enough to earn Tallulah the 2024 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, which recognizes wine lists featuring quality producers and a thematic match to the menu in both price and style.
Beyond the dining room, Tallulah's outdoor terrace is a genuine draw. Fire and water features, swaying palms, and the mild Louisiana climate make it a compelling spot for cocktails, private events, or a relaxed dinner. The space accommodates couples and larger groups, with private dining options and customized menus available. Live music, pairing events, and even kids cooking classes appear regularly on the events calendar.
The kitchen runs from early morning through late evening — breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a bar that stays open until midnight — making Tallulah one of the more versatile tables in Baton Rouge, whether you're stopping in for a weekday lunch or settling in for a long Friday evening on the terrace.
