The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Landmark Since 1696

Few restaurants on Cape Cod carry the kind of history that greets you the moment you step through the door at the Old Yarmouth Inn. Originally a wayside inn and stage stop, this Yarmouth Port institution has been welcoming travelers and locals along Route 6A for more than three centuries. That continuity is no accident — it speaks to a place that has consistently earned its place at the center of the community.

The Wine Spectator Award of Excellence is a fitting recognition for a restaurant that takes its cellar seriously. An exceptional wine selection is woven into the experience here, whether you're settling into the wood-paneled tavern for something casual or taking a table in the elegant dining room with its sunroom-style windows.

The Spaces

The Old Yarmouth Inn offers several distinct settings under one roof. The historic "Red Room" carries the weight of the building's long past. The main dining room opens onto bright, sunroom-style windows. Come warmer months, the seasonal patio draws guests outside. And the tavern — warm, unhurried, wood-paneled — is exactly the kind of room you want on a cool Cape Cod evening.

What's on the Plate

The menu is rooted in classic American cuisine, leaning into the coastal larder that makes this corner of Massachusetts so distinctive. East Dennis oysters on the half shell, New England clam chowder with red bliss potato and cream, baked clams casino, and lobster bisque represent the raw bar and starter side of things. Among the mains, pan-seared day boat scallops come with butternut and bacon risotto and an apple cider glaze; lobster pappardelle is tossed in a lobster sherry cream with blistered tomatoes and garden peas; and the butter-poached filet mignon — an 8oz center-cut choice filet — arrives with confit garlic mash, asparagus, and a cabernet demi.

For those who arrive earlier in the evening, a three-course "Pre-6" menu runs nightly from 4:00 to 5:30 pm, offering a well-priced entry point into the full kitchen's range. Desserts like classic crème brûlée, flourless chocolate cake, and a cranberry-apple crisp close things out simply and satisfyingly.

Menus change with the seasons, built around fresh, local ingredients — the kitchen's commitment to that rhythm is what keeps the food feeling alive rather than static.

Gatherings and Events

The OYI is equally at home hosting a quiet dinner for two or a private event for a larger group. The team works with guests to build seasonally inspired menus for sit-down dinners, standing receptions, and cocktail parties. Walk-ins are welcome; reservations are accepted for up to ten guests, with larger gatherings handled through a dedicated gatherings program.
