Truluck's

Truluck's in Austin serves sustainably harvested Florida Stone Crab, prime seafood, and Wine Spectator-recognized wines in an elegant Arboretum setting.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Ocean's Finest, Straight from the Trap

Since 1992, Truluck's has operated as a privately held group with the same two founders at the helm — no private equity, no outside investors. That independence shows in the details. At the Austin Arboretum location on Research Boulevard, the commitment to quality seafood is not a talking point; it's a supply chain. The restaurant's own team of professional crabbers ventures daily into the turquoise waters surrounding the Florida Keys, removes a single claw from each stone crab, and returns the animal unharmed to regenerate. Those claws travel from trap to table in under 24 hours — fully cooked, chilled, and pre-cracked. Truluck's serves over 300,000 fresh Florida Stone Crab claws each season (October 15 through May 1), and the number of frozen claws served is, by their own count, zero.

A Menu Built Around Honest Sourcing

The seafood menu at Truluck's extends well beyond stone crab. Diners will find Ōra King Salmon — described as rare and responsibly raised — alongside Miso-Glazed Seabass, Sesame-Seared Tuna, Mediterranean Branzino, and Cold-Water Lobster Tail. Prime hand-cut steaks, including filet and ribeye, share the menu with indulgent add-ons like Truffle-King Crab Butter and Blue Crab Oscar. A three-course prix fixe at $59 offers daily value, with Slow-Roasted Prime Rib featured exclusively on Sundays. The kitchen follows Ocean Conservancy guidelines throughout, never serving overfished or endangered species, and always specifying the origin of its fish on the menu.

The wine list earned Truluck's a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence — recognition that reflects a selection serious enough to pair thoughtfully with both delicate seafood and richer cuts. Nightly Happy Hour in the bar brings cocktails, wines by the glass, and freshly shucked oysters to half price, while the Martini Experience — curated by Beverage Director Dave Mattern — offers four distinct martinis, each available as a full pour or the smaller "Tiny Tini," using private-barrel spirits and house-stuffed blue cheese olives.

The Room and the Occasion

Guests consistently note the warmth of the service alongside the elegance of the space — one reviewer called it "one of the most beautiful restaurants in Austin." The Arboretum location offers private and group dining spaces suited to rehearsal dinners, corporate events, birthdays, and anniversaries, with a dedicated events team handling every logistical detail. Truluck's also supports more than 150 nonprofits annually, with documented donations to organizations including the PTSD Foundation of America, Autism Speaks, and the National Breast Cancer Foundation — a dimension of the restaurant's identity its team describes simply as "success unshared is failure."

For a special occasion or a well-earned weeknight out, Truluck's delivers fine seafood dining with the kind of consistency that comes from three decades under the same ownership.
