The story
The story of Perry's Steakhouse & Grille begins in 1979, when Bob Perry opened a modest meat market in Houston called Perry's Butcher Shop and Deli. By 1986, his son Chris Perry persuaded him to add dining tables — a decision that proved immediately popular. In 1993, Chris took the next step and opened Perry's Steakhouse & Grille, combining careful sourcing with a polished dining experience. The Domain Northside location at 11801 Domain Blvd. is part of that same family-owned legacy, and it carries the same ethos that has earned the brand a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.
Perry's calls its approach "Rare and Well Done®" — a phrase that captures both the quality of the beef and the level of service. Butchers hand-select Prime USDA-aged steaks with exceptional marbling before chefs apply a signature spice blend. Guests can finish their plates with additions like Oscar Style with Blue Lump Crab and Béarnaise, a Truffle Merlot demi-glace, or a coffee crust, turning a classic steakhouse format into something more personal.
The moment that tends to draw the most attention, though, is the tableside carving. Perry's Famous Pork Chop — seven fingers high, slow-smoked and roasted on a pecan wood rotisserie for up to six hours, then topped with signature herb-garlic butter — is carved at the table in full view. It is, as the restaurant puts it, an unexpected steakhouse specialty, and one the kitchen has been perfecting for more than four decades.
Bar 79®, named for the year the original butcher shop opened, offers a separate bar menu with cocktails made from fresh kitchen ingredients alongside curated wine pours. For larger gatherings, Perry's Austin provides elegant private dining rooms suited to corporate events, milestone celebrations, and group dinners, with flexible menus and the full service standard the brand is known for. The wine program, recognized by Wine Spectator, ensures that pairing options are as considered as the food itself.
Perry's Steakhouse & Grille in Austin stands as a reliable address for fine steakhouse dining — grounded in a genuine family history, attentive to detail, and consistent enough to have built a loyal following across decades.
