The story
Napa Rose sits inside Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa in Anaheim, and it earns its Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star rating the old-fashioned way: through serious cooking, a world-class wine program, and a team that treats every dinner as an event worth remembering. The Craftsman architecture of the hotel carries through into the dining room — stained glass light fixtures, vineyard-inspired murals along the upper walls, and expansive windows overlooking a wooded area that give the space a genuinely secluded, unhurried feeling.
Executive Chef Clint Chin, a Le Cordon Bleu graduate who previously helmed Club 33 and Disney's 21 Royal, leads a kitchen built on one principle: start with the best ingredient available, then get out of its way. Every day, the team sources locally and internationally — Wagyu beef from Japan, mushrooms from France, and the full breadth of California's seasonal bounty — building menus that shift with what's actually good rather than what's convenient. The result is a prix fixe format that changes regularly, drawing on European haute cuisine technique, Asian influences, Latin earthiness, and regional American creativity in equal measure.
Recent dishes from the menu illustrate the range: Wild Boar Agnolotti with persimmon coulis and chestnuts; Tide Pools — hiramasa in a cockle broth with uni foam; Sorpresine Pasta in California crab broth with uni butter; and Pacific Shrimp Apple Flutes with crème fraîche and emerald oil. The Forbes guide singles out the grilled diver scallops with tangerine, cauliflower, hazelnuts, and dried cranberry, and roasted lamb chops with sunflower root, mint pistou, and roasted red pepper essence.
Wine Director Patrick Kirchen — a Certified Sommelier, Level 3 WSET, and certified Napa Valley Wine Expert — oversees a cellar of more than 1,500 international labels displayed throughout the restaurant. He works directly with the kitchen to develop pairings, and every table captain holds at least a Level 1 sommelier certification. Wine pairing is not an afterthought here; it's woven into the architecture of each meal.
Napa Rose offers four distinct ways to experience the room. The Main Dining Room and Outdoor Terrace both follow the prix fixe format with a curated kids' menu. The Chef's Counter puts guests directly in front of the open kitchen — the closest view of how each course comes together. The Lounge operates à la carte with inventive small bites and craft cocktails, no reservation required. On select mornings, the restaurant also hosts the Disney Princess Breakfast Adventure, a three-course experience designed for families.
General Manager Jess Soman, a Level 2 Certified Sommelier named Hospitality CEO of the Year 2023 by the Global CEO Excellence Awards, came to Disney after a decade at The Inn at Little Washington — where he helped the property earn its first Michelin three-star rating. Executive Pastry Chef Jorge Sotelo has been part of the Disneyland Resort since 1995, directing the dessert and baking program across the hotel's signature restaurants. The depth of experience in this room is not incidental.
