The story
Since 1998, Al Biernat's has been synonymous with the finest steakhouse dining in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. The North location on Spring Valley Road carries forward everything that made the original Oak Lawn restaurant a destination: impeccable service, an atmosphere of old-world elegance, and a kitchen committed to sourcing the very best beef and seafood available anywhere.
The story behind the name is worth knowing. Al Biernat's path to becoming a Dallas dining authority began at eighteen, when he left Detroit for Aspen and found work at the famed nightclub Paragon's oyster bar. That led him to the Palm restaurants — Hollywood, then Houston, then Dallas — where he spent years building a reputation for power lunches and a see-and-be-seen dinner crowd. In 1998, he and his wife Jeannie took the leap, secured a space on Oak Lawn Avenue, and built something that outlasted every trend: a genuinely warm, world-class steakhouse rooted in hospitality that, as Al puts it, "comes from the heart."
The kitchen at Al Biernat's North takes its sourcing seriously. Steaks come from premier providers both nationally and locally — a Gearhart Ranch Texas Wagyu New York Strip or an Allen Brothers of Chicago tomahawk ribeye represent the range on offer. Each cut is singular in quality, preparation, and provenance.
The seafood program is equally considered. Selections are flown in from around the world: Premium Osetra Caviar, live Maine lobsters, Chilean Sea Bass, Australian Cold Water Lobster Tails, oysters, diver scallops, and tiger prawns. For a steakhouse, the depth of the seafood offering is genuinely impressive.
The wine list at Al Biernat's North earned Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence in 2025 — a recognition that reflects real depth and curation, not just volume. Sommelier Brian Hardin personally selects each bottle at the North location, drawing from a broad range of vineyards, varietals, and vintages across both old- and new-world regions. Hard-to-find selections sit alongside approachable choices, and the list is designed specifically to complement the steakhouse and seafood menu. Throughout the year, Al Biernat's North also hosts exclusive wine dinner events for guests who want to explore the program more fully.
Al has assembled a team of hospitality professionals who share his commitment to genuine warmth and consistent excellence. Whether the occasion is a business lunch, a celebratory dinner, or a private event, the North Dallas location delivers the same standard that has made Al Biernat's a fixture on the Dallas dining scene for more than two decades.
