The story
Opened in 1998 on Royal Hospital Road in Chelsea, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay is Gordon Ramsay's first wholly owned restaurant and remains his flagship. Three Michelin stars arrived in 2001 and have been held continuously since — a distinction reaffirmed in the 2026 Michelin Guide. At its peak, the restaurant ranked as high as 2nd on The World's 50 Best Restaurants list, and it featured in that ranking every year from 2002 through 2008, a run that cemented its place among the most celebrated dining rooms in Europe.
Day-to-day leadership of the kitchen falls to Chef de Cuisine Kim Ratcharoen, who carries forward the standards of precision and craft that defined the restaurant from the start. The cooking is rooted in modern French cuisine — seasonal ingredients, vibrant flavours, delicate textures — approached with a respect for classical technique and an eye for freshness. Menus change to reflect what the season offers, rather than leaning on fixed signatures, so each visit reflects a particular moment in the year.
The dining room on Royal Hospital Road is intimate and unhurried. Tasting menus are the format here, supported by impeccable service that has long been as much a part of the restaurant's reputation as the food itself. A private room is available for groups and special occasions, making it a considered choice for events that warrant a three-Michelin-star setting.
The dress code is relaxed enough to feel welcoming — smart trainers are fine, though shorts, tracksuits and hoodies are not — and the overall atmosphere is one where guests are encouraged to feel at ease without any loosening of the standards that have kept this address at the top of London's French cuisine scene for more than two decades.
