The story
Architectural Digest called it "one of the most romantic restaurants in the world," and the blossom-adorned conservatory at Clos Maggiore is the reason why. Set on King Street in the heart of Covent Garden — steps from the Royal Opera House and the West End theatres — the room shifts character with the seasons: an open, al-fresco feel in summer, a warm glowing sanctuary when winter arrives. It is the kind of space that makes an occasion feel genuinely special without trying too hard.
The kitchen describes its approach as a contemporary take on modern European cuisine, inspired by the sophisticated country inns of the South of France and Tuscany. What grounds it is a serious commitment to sourcing: seafood comes directly from UK fishing boats, lamb from the Welsh mountains, game from Windsor Royal Park, poultry from a family-run smallholding in Lancashire, and organically grown fruit and vegetables delivered fresh from Kent each morning.
On the à la carte, that translates into dishes like Isle of Orkney hand-dived scallop with fricassée of early spring peas, toasted hazelnuts and XO sauce; Cornish monkfish with Scottish razor clams, white asparagus and spring peas; and Sladesdown duck with fondant celeriac, smoked heritage beetroot and preserved crab apple. The five-course tasting menu — available evenings — follows a similar seasonal logic, with both classic and premium wine pairings matched course by course. The contemporary British sensibility runs through every plate, from the artisanal sourdough served at the start to the 70% Nicaraguan chocolate soufflé that closes the meal.
The wine programme is among the most serious in London. Over 2,000 selections spanning 27 countries and four centuries fill a hundred-page list that holds the Wine Spectator Grand Award — one of only 95 restaurants worldwide to carry that distinction. A Coravin preservation system lets guests access rare and aged vintages by the glass, and the sommelier team is known for making that breadth feel accessible rather than intimidating, offering recommendations across all tastes and budgets. Wine dinners and champagne tasting events run throughout the year.
The kitchen's consistency has earned Three AA Rosettes, recognised again for 2026. For smaller gatherings, the first-floor private dining room seats up to 18 and can be dressed to suit anything from a corporate dinner to an intimate celebration. The same care that defines the main room — attentive service, a team many of whom have been with the restaurant for years — carries through to every private event.
