The story
"In the beginning there was truth, and that truth was in wine." That is how Vino e Cucina introduces itself — and the restaurant lives up to the declaration. Spread across three floors on Sichovykh Striltsiv Street in Kyiv, it brings together a spacious restaurant hall, a cellar wine bar, and a ground-floor pizzeria built around a real wood-burning oven. Each space has its own rhythm, but the thread running through all of them is a serious, joyful commitment to Italian cuisine and the wines that belong beside it.
For eight consecutive years, Wine Spectator has recognised Vino e Cucina with its Best of Award of Excellence — a distinction reserved for restaurants whose wine lists are compiled at the highest level. The enoteca holds more than 1,000 wines sourced from 15 countries and 20 regions of Italy alone, alongside 100 types of champagne and sparkling wines and 50 types of grappa. Rare vintages, leading estates with multi-year waiting lists, and bottles from producers who have personally led tastings at the restaurant — among them Gaia Gaia, Lodovico Antinori, and Pierre Richard — give the list a depth that goes well beyond a standard restaurant cellar.
The kitchen covers the full range of Italian cuisine: traditional antipasti, a broad selection of homemade pasta, and classic preparations that have kept regulars returning. Two dishes have become signatures: a beef tartare finished tableside and a risotto served directly from a 19-month-aged Parmesan wheel. Both illustrate the kitchen's approach — familiar Italian technique, quality ingredients, a little theatre.
The upper hall fills with live music in the evenings, making it equally suited to a leisurely dinner or a larger gathering. Families are well catered for, with a dedicated kids' menu alongside the main offerings. When the weather allows, a summer terrace in the adjacent park extends the experience outdoors. Whether the occasion calls for a quiet lunch, a wine pairing dinner, or a table for a crowd, Vino e Cucina has the space and the list to match it.
