The story
On Volodymirska Street, steps from the city's historic centre, Catch has established itself as Kyiv's most considered seafood restaurant. The room carries a smart, elegant character — international design recognition from the Lighting Design Awards and ISBID International Design Awards in 2018 speaks to the care taken with the space — and the dress code (smart and elegant, no sportswear or casual wear) signals that this is a place guests are expected to take seriously.
The kitchen's focus is unambiguously the sea. Eight varieties of oysters are available alongside sea urchins, and a live aquarium keeps crabs and lobsters on hand until the moment they're needed. The open kitchen becomes a stage once a month for the restaurant's signature Tuna Cutting: a whole Bluefin tuna is broken down in full view of the dining room, and dishes made from the freshly carved fish follow immediately. It's a rare kind of theatre that also makes a genuine point about freshness.
The weekly rhythm matters here too. Every Friday brings Champagne Night; every weekend, Oysters Weekend — a rotating showcase of exceptional varieties that keeps regulars coming back.
The wine programme is the other reason Catch sits in a category of its own. Wine Spectator has awarded the list its Best of Award of Excellence for eight consecutive years — a run of recognition that reflects genuine curatorial ambition. The Champagne selection alone runs to more than 390 references, spanning grand houses and small growers: Krug Clos du Mesnil 2004, Dom Pérignon P3 1985, Philipponnat Clos des Goisses across three vintages, Gosset Celebris in both Rosé and Blanc, and a number of rare still wines from the Champagne region available exclusively here. White wines from Burgundy, the Loire Valley, Italy, Austria, Germany and the USA extend the list to over 100 further references.
Beyond the Wine Spectator honour, Catch has received the national "Salt" restaurant award for two consecutive years — acknowledgement from within Ukraine's dining scene to match the international accolades. For seafood in Kyiv at this level, the address on Volodymirska is the reference point.
