The story
BEEF on Shota Rustaveli Street is Kyiv's most internationally recognised steakhouse — ranked No. 79 in the world by World's Best Steak Restaurants in 2024, named the best meat restaurant in Ukraine by the "Sil" award, and holder of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for 2024. That last distinction is not incidental: wine is as central to the experience here as the fire that drives the kitchen.
The kitchen itself is open-flame, and the restaurant leans into that fact with characteristic directness: "We are playing with fire. Don't call the firefighters." Steaks are sourced from a world collection spanning Japan, the USA, Australia, Argentina, Spain, and Ukraine — but the Ukrainian selection carries a particular conviction. The team controls the raising of the animals, works without intermediaries, and makes no compromises, driven by a belief that Ukrainian beef deserves a place in the global conversation.
For guests who want to go deeper, BEEF offers a Chef's Table format with chef Denys Ometsinsky. The table sits at the centre of the working kitchen — not a private room, but the actual heart of the restaurant, where six courses are cooked personally for you over live fire. A sommelier pairs each course from the restaurant's wine collection. The date is arranged individually, three business days in advance. It is, as the restaurant puts it, "never accidental — it's about you."
The Wine Spectator recognition reflects a cellar and a programme built with genuine seriousness. The WHITE BAR hosts intimate two-person tastings led by sommelier Ihor, exploring how the same wine changes character across five different glass shapes — from Zalto (Austria) to Lehmann (Reims) to handmade Czech Mark Tomas crystal. Bottles on the tasting menu range from Burgundian Chablis Premier Cru to a South African Pinotage, and any bottle from the wine store can be brought to the tasting at retail price.
The BEEF Masterclass Collection extends the experience into education: a Steak Class with Mykhailo Morozov, a Cocktail Lab with head bartender Georgiy Byvalin, and Chef's Table evenings with chef Olha Martynovska. Raw steaks, wine, and even branded merchandise are available through the BEEF Store for those who want to bring some of the experience home.
For a steakhouse operating in Kyiv through challenging times, BEEF has built something that goes well beyond a good cut of meat — it is a full argument for what Ukrainian fine dining can be.
