The story
For decades, Da Angela has been a recognized address on Hohlstrasse in Zürich's west, earning a loyal following through honest, carefully sourced Italian-Mediterranean cuisine. Today the restaurant is in the hands of Anja Pagani and Mike Thomi, who carry forward a tradition that long predates them — welcoming guests with the same warmth the name has always promised.
The philosophy is straightforward: fresh, hand-picked ingredients, a kitchen that cooks with passion, and a menu that balances beloved house classics with rotating seasonal dishes. That commitment to authenticity has earned Da Angela recognition from Gambero Rosso, Italy's most authoritative food and wine guide, which awarded the restaurant a Fork in its 2026 edition — a mark of genuine Italian-Mediterranean quality outside of Italy.
The pasta program alone sets Da Angela apart. Cappelletti "Angela" — filled with beef, finished with butter and garlic — are a signature that regulars simply will not see removed from the menu. Alongside them sit handmade Ravioli with veal filling, Tortelli stuffed with quark and spinach, and delicate Taglierini served with fresh lobster. Every shape is made in-house, and the job listing for a new Chef de Partie specifically calls out fresh housemade pasta as a non-negotiable skill — a telling detail about how seriously the kitchen takes the craft.
Fish dishes lean into the Mediterranean character of the cooking: a mixed grill of fresh fish fillets and seafood with seasonal vegetables, turbot prepared in a southern-Italian style with lemon risotto, and king prawns à l'amalfitana. Meat dishes are equally considered — the Rindsfilet im Pfännli "Angela" (beef tenderloin cooked in a pan) is another house classic that has become inseparable from the restaurant's identity.
The wine list is curated exclusively from Italian regions, chosen with the same care applied to the food.
Da Angela offers both an indoor dining room and a garden terrace — a rare combination in this part of Zürich — along with 40 parking spaces, making it genuinely accessible for guests coming from across the city. The team itself is described as long-standing, which shows in the consistency and attentiveness that define the experience here.
Lunch and dinner are served Monday through Friday; Saturday evenings only. Takeaway is available for those who want the Italian-Mediterranean kitchen at home.
