The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Gstaad Institution with Thirty Years of Recognition

At Le Grand Chalet in Gstaad, La Bagatelle has held its place among the finest restaurants in the Berner Oberland for three decades. The Gault&Millau guide has consistently awarded it three toques and 16 out of 20 points — a steady verdict that speaks louder than any single season's accolade. The restaurant is also a member of Les Grandes Tables Suisses, an association that brings together Swiss chefs united by a shared commitment to quality cooking and hospitality.

Chef Steve Willié and the Market Table

The kitchen is led by Chef de cuisine Steve Willié, whose French cuisine carries precise aromas and a Mediterranean accent. Rather than a fixed repertoire, the menu shifts with what arrives from the market each day — a discipline that keeps the cooking grounded and seasonal. Alongside the à la carte selection, a daily menu is available at both lunch and dinner, making La Bagatelle a destination for a leisurely midday meal as much as an evening occasion.

The Room, the Terrace, the Cellar

Pedro Ferreira, co-host alongside Steve Willié, oversees a welcome that the restaurant describes as personal and charming. The main dining room is spacious and comfortable; a lounge by the fireplace offers a quieter corner for those who want to linger. The veranda extends the experience further, but it is the panoramic terrace that defines La Bagatelle's setting — an open-air view across the Saanenland and its Alpine peaks that shifts from summer sunsets to crisp winter lunches beneath clear skies.

The wine list has earned a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence, a recognition that reflects the depth and curation of the cellar. For private events — baptisms, birthdays, weddings — the Grand Cru room and its adjoining terrace offer an exclusive space with the same view over Gstaad.

As Steve Willié puts it simply: "The highest praise is still given to the happy and satisfied customers."
