The story
The name says everything about the philosophy: Kytaly fuses "Ki" — the Japanese concept of vital energy — with Italy, the cradle of Mediterranean culture. Opened in 2014 on Boulevard Georges-Favon, the restaurant has built its identity around a simple conviction: slow down, return to the source, and let quality ingredients speak for themselves. The result is a space entirely dedicated to Italian gastronomy in the heart of Geneva.
The room is designed so that nothing is hidden. An open kitchen and a Neapolitan pizza oven sit in full view of the dining area, letting guests observe the chefs at work. The space itself has a gently industrial feel — custom furniture, high shelves lined with carefully selected Italian products, and a bar area at the entrance that transitions into a more intimate dining room a few steps up. House cocktails, developed by the team, are offered as aperitifs, digestifs, or alongside a meal.
The pizza at Kytaly is not simply Neapolitan-style — it is directly rooted in the work of Franco Pepe, widely regarded as one of the finest interpreters of Neapolitan pizza in the world. Pepe's expertise spans three generations of master bakers, and his approach has shaped how Kytaly's pizzaiolo works: recipes reproduced with fidelity to what was taught, nothing more and nothing less. That commitment earned Kytaly recognition as the 6th best pizzeria in Europe (outside Italy) by the 50 Top Pizza guide in 2019 — the only Swiss establishment on that list. Gambero Rosso has also awarded the restaurant 2 slices, a mark of serious quality in Italian gastronomy.
Kytaly's philosophy resists shortcuts. The menu draws on recipes that are simple and faithful to tradition, with freshness and product quality as the non-negotiable guarantees. For anyone in Geneva seeking Italian gastronomy that takes its craft seriously — from the dough to the mozzarella di bufala — Kytaly makes a compelling case.
