The story
Ten minutes north of Visby's medieval walls, just past the families gathered at Krusmyntagården, a left turn toward the water leads to GT-Villan. The smell of the herb garden arrives before the view does — and the view, across marshes and open water, is the kind that keeps people in their chairs long after the sun has begun its slow descent.
GT-Villan is the more grown-up sibling of the sister restaurant Krusmyntagården next door. The concept is straightforward and honest: a day spent by the sea, with wine, a gin and tonic, good food, and music to match the mood. The restaurant is entirely outdoors — there is a roof and windbreak for cooler evenings, but a light extra layer is recommended once the sun drops.
White Guide's 2026 Fine level recognition speaks to how much has changed here in a short time. What was a bare bar in a previous season has, under Filip Fastén and his team, grown into something more considered: an open kitchen, a veranda lined with gently rocking wooden chairs, and garden seating below that catches the last of the evening light at its best angle. The White Guide described the positioning as "perfectly placed for unbeatable evening sun" — and anyone who has sat here at dusk would find it hard to argue.
The kitchen keeps things relaxed and seasonal, with a Swedish sensibility and a focus on vegetables alongside pizza and snacks. It is the kind of place where the setting does much of the work, but the food earns its place in that setting. The outdoor tables, the herb garden nearby, and the coastal air make even simple dishes feel well-chosen.
GT-Villan operates seasonally — a reminder that the best things on Gotland tend to be worth waiting for.
